Guys, one thing that'll help us track the problem down is the server you are playing on, and the time/date the problem happens. The logs are reasonably large and if it crashes it might not log a problem.

And sorry, I just restarted both servers to apply a new version of the supporting software.

Hi Hydra,

I will starting logging dates\times and post it back here.

Nice to see some movement on the issue.

What hardware does the server need? or is it a matter of bandwidthm that stops us using the Home PC as a server?

Without seeing the server config, I've got no idea why you guys have so much drama with your server.

Post the config params.

You know Einstein's definition of insanity? repeating the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

It's got fsck all to do with the date and time, and everything to do with setup.
And the mission. Could always give us a copy of the mission and get one of our boys to have a look at it =P

Bandwidth basically.

Anyone can run a home server, you're just limited to slots to bandwidth.

Standard ADSL connection will handle 6-8 people max depending on the mission & mods.

100/40 NBN connection however... *grins*

No it’s worse. Other (much further distanced servers), do not seem to experience this problem anywhere as frequently as the GON ones have become, and I say 'become' as it is a problem been getting worse, more frequent, reoccurring, I can see some of us are having problems with this concept, in a set period of time (say 168 hours) the event (crash) would occur more times than it would have at a previous period in the past.

I can represent this in a picture for you.

- Will be used for time.
# Will be used for a crash event.

--> Direction of time

---------------#---------------#--------#-------#----#--#----#---#-#-#--#--#-

Server Crash

Date: 18.05.11

Time: 16:20 (UTC +10:00)

I was monitoring the server the whole game, it crashed suddenly, just before it crashed the console output spiked from a constant 2000 Kbps to over 7000 (data out). It jumped to over 685 MB in memory usage, this was the highest memory load it had reached all game (Memory fault?) It crashes very suddenly, I had the console set to 15 sec refresh and I only got the one spike then 'No Message Received'.

I assume the server is on a UPS? This isn’t being caused by a power spike? No one was using an electric vaporiser around this time today? Just seems strange that’s all, it would explain so much.

AFAICR the GON server has always had issues. None of the AEF ones do, so I'd say it's all in the setup =P

So what you saying is we should all go play warfare on AEF servers.

Anyway tonight it didn't seem to crash at all albeit that one time when a heap of people got kicked by battleye at the same time.
