DayZ and offsetting the server time

Unread postby TRB » 18 May 12, 8:15 pm

Is it possible to offset the server time so that midday in-game is around 9pm real time?

spending most of prime-time in darkness isn't awesome.

The server time on the GoN server is currently set to +3GMT, which is euro-central time. That means mid-day in game is about 5pm here (Perth). That seems perfectly fine to me.

Yeah, I played just now and it was either 6AM or 6PM. Either way, it was light out and enjoyable.

I went onto the AusArmA server and it was pitch black. Makes it impossible for new players, even more so because there's no torches or anything.

Flares are ok, but they're basically a big sign that says "shoot/eat me". You really need a lot of them, because you're going to have to skirt them. Apparently the super dark nights is to try to balance people maxing out gamma, which only works on some cards. So it's ridiculous.

You're not really meant to start at night. Once you've got some gear and some glowsticks, night is much safer than day, and it can be very tense in the cities. Initially though, it just sucks. I remember the first time I loaded, it was absolutely pitch black, I couldn't see which way was up the beach and which way was down. I couldn't even see my hands in front of my face.

The pitch black thing doesn't work at all it should be perma moonlit because people just gamma up anyway.

That would make mid-day about 9PM AEST, I think you guys are about 3 hours behind us?

I could have sworn last night in gon server it was getting dark around 7pm last night.
Myself and several friends changed servers because of it.

was playing on an aus server last night, might have been ausarma... but picked up a watch ingame, and it was accurate EST (for brisbane). I dont mind the dark, cos i gamma it up (seems to need HDR lighting on to work), and it feels safer at night anyways... but when it rains you still can't see anything... and earlier on in the night i still needed to hold a chemlight, i think you can only use gamma reliably when there are no clouds, and the stars or moon light comes out... even then you still can hardly see stuff in any real detail... you just mostly watch for silhouettes and movement...

once I find some NVGs then we can keep it all dark all the time :P

It'd be good if zombies were as adversely affected by dark as far as their homing in on you as players are.

Apparently the server time isn't offset anymore? Is this an oversight or an attempt to fix the character saving?

All of the UTC +4 servers I tried are dark by 9pm [or earlier but I can't remember the exact time] sydney time.

and the UTC -5 servers were dawn by the same time or there abouts.

You can set it to any time you want, reverse or anything. Lunar time if that suits you. Just make sure that it ticks forward at the same time as the rest of us here on Earth are.

We only issue the IP Ban's as an emergency method when a server is detected doing something that might compromise the database.

So, can we please have atleast one of the GoN servers set back to +3GMT?

I think a lot of you need to realize that the game is just as fun at night as during the day, spend 20 minutes during the day one weekend learning the basics of the map and you'll be fine at night, it's meant to be a simulation so just let it be one IMO.

The darkness is a good thing, you just need to stop treating the game like a "me me me me NOW" fps, night is hard? IT'S MEANT TO BE.

That's unjustified. I've played both day and night, and night right now is foobared. Some people seem to be able to see further than others with gamma turned all the way up, and for anyone who doesn't know to turn gamma up its pitch blackness. Add to that that chemlights and flares will both attract zombies as of the next update, and nighttime becomes near impossible.

Personally with my gamma and brightness set to max, on an AMD card with normal HDR, I can see about 10m in front of me, and then people pop out of existance. So you'll have to excuse me for having a preference for the daytime, when I'm not at a disadvantage to every other person playing.

Plus, now there are two GoN servers, it's not like you couldn't have them set to oppposite time zones.
