You may remember from a few episodes ago after Theon had returned to the Iron Islands he wrote out a letter to Robb (if you pause it you can read it) that said his father (Balon Grayjoy) had refused to help in the Norths war and he was coming back to Robb to continue to fight for the north. He then promptly proceeded to burn that letter rather than send it. That scene was the beginning of Theons internal conflict between how he was raised by Ned Stark and his want for his stark family and wanting to prove himself as an Iron Islander to his father and his want to be included in his Grayjoy family. For all his parading around trying to prove himself heartless and willing to do whatever it takes, he was raised with Ned's sense of honor and its one thing to simply say, 'I'm going to kill some kids and then they'll fear me,' and actually seeing the result of that in front of him. The look he gives is a 'what the hell have I just done' expression, continuing to highlight the conflict in his head. He's so desperate for his fathers approval but hes completely unassured in what hes doing.

this is what I thought it would be, if I assumed they were the actual people he said they were. my problem is I find this unlikely, so I sort of discounted it being the case and went from there.

I guess I will find out next week. and again, please don't respond with spoilers from the book.

The two burned corpses wouldn't have been the Stark kid + friend. Too much characterisation of him, Hodor and the wildling. I don't personally think Theon is a truly horrible person. Sure he's been a bit of a ****, but he's been dicked around most of his life and is trying to prove himself to his **** of a family. He knows he has to be ruthless. But he still isn't comfortable with murder, esp of children it seems.
What can change the nature of a man?

I'm not sure if that was directed at me but everything I mentioned can be deduced from the TV series, there's absolutely no book spoilers in it at all.

Did you guys seriously not get that scene? "we cant find the starks, oh look, the farm where we sent those 2 orphan boys, hey only person who knows what the starks look like... go back to winterfel, hey check out these burned stark corpses... we caught them after you left.."

I'm not really sure how they could have made it any clearer.

they could have had the stark kids hiding behind a tree watching the burnt corpses and saying "wow, glad that wasnt us!" then skipping off into the sunset

I'm not sure if you read my posts, but the confusion exists because of his reaction to the burned corpses.

if they were truly not the starks, then why does he give a ****? he shouldn't be getting so sad about some random orphans. his reaction only makes sense if he thinks they were the stark boys.

it wasn't. it was directed at anyone who would reply to our musings with an absolute answer they got from the book.

because he's not the hardcore arsehole he is pretending to be. He killed two children just to save face and he's regretting it.

It's basically as Auld just said, despite his protestations Eddard raised him fairly well, I think that was the "i just murdered and mutilated 2 children, wtf am i doing" sort of moment. Probably it also sunk in exactly what sort of men he's in command of.

Is there a reason everything is hidden? Can there just be a rule of not discussing the book in this thread and that anything to have aired is fair game in regards to conversation? It would make the thread far more enjoyable to read/take part in. If you guys are happy spoiler tagging EVERYTHING that's cool and I'll go with it but I thought I'd ask the question. It also kind of eliminates the whole "why did they take that part from the books out?!?!" complaint some people seem to have.

As for the latest episode, what an ending! Though it's clearly not Bran and his brother it was still shocking to say the least. Theon is also going to die a most horrible death because of what he did, it seems like it's only a matter of time. Killing the orphans and making it look like Bran and his brother will only bring the Starks down on him harder than they were already coming. His face when they raised the bodies up was also really intense to watch, it was almost a little sickening.

The whole uprising in Quarth took me by surprise too, though it was pretty obvious who stole Daenerys' dragons before the episode began.

All in all, it was quite easily one of the best episodes of the series in that so much happened while still leaving you wanting to see what the hell happens next.

The reason for the the hidden tag on tv spoilers is simple, this forum is infested with people who insist on reading these threads on release day BEFORE they watch the episode.

are you serious?

not everyone watches the episode on release. some people wait for DVD release, some people wait a few days. just because you have watched it, doesn't mean everyone has.

why does it matter that you have to click on the hidden button?

Robb's new love interest Talisa is also played by Oona Chaplin (Charlie's granddaughter).
