My question somewhat related to exe3 question,
Can we expect improved pathfinding AI? especially when it comes to interaction between vehicles and infantry which has been the bane of vehicle usage in both CoH and DoW2. Specifically, with vehicles being stuck or confused by infantry traffic.

IE:
will .303cal weapons still be able to destroy light armoured vehicles?
will the 40mm bofors and 17pdr AT emplacement have more range then a rifle?
will brits be able to repair bridges without having to build several expensive items first?

basically, will things actually make sense this time?

well CoH has always been more of an RTS with some aspect of realism, not the other way around...

i mean if you REALLY want realism at all then you'd want even more aspect on it that overrides the game balance it was designed on... like

why do tanks survive penetrating hits at all instead of having a good chance of being knocked out with one penetrating hit, why do infantries take a lot of bullets to kill, and for that matter you shouldn't be able to build structures in minutes or less.

Let's face it, CoH was never designed by Relic from the start in that manner, from the beginning it was an RTS first and foremost or RTT even you could say. It was never intended to have realism overriding the simple balance it has.

You're being a bit of a babby, it isn't a simulator it is a small scale RTS and has necessary balance issues in it.

If you had MMGs and HMGs being able to shred infantry and light vehicles it'd throw off the pacing of the game. Yes, it is a little silly that a Jeep has a machine gun on the back but doesn't do much damage to infantry or that your sniper can't just pick it off with one shot but it's great that you can use your jeep to cut down weapons teams and track snipers.

As for the 17pdr, they have amazing range (Second best in the entire game, after 88's) but they have poor line of sight. You need to pair them with spotting units to maximise that.

It's an Eastern Front game, I daresay any issues about the Brit tech tree are irrelevant but, yes, the map design did make bridge destruction problematic.

He is not entirely off though, what he is asking is basically EXACTLY what a lot of the CoH mod did.

so what he should be doing instead is getting one of the realism mod for CoH.

then he gets EXACTLY what he asked:

ie: sherman has a good chance of turning to burning hulk from a direct hit with 88mm, bullets much more lethal and infantry caught in open by MGs gets massacred, HMG do jack all to armored vehicles except the .50 cals, etc...

all he has to do is find the right mod.

Blitzkrieg was one of the popular one that injects more realism, but still retain enough arcade elements in to be fun instead of going full blown realistic which CoH engine is ill equipped to handle anyway.

In short:
CoH will NEVER pander to that kind of extreme end most likely, and will let the mod do it instead.

The base of CoH gameplay will always be focused on the more traditional RTS/RTT balance which are more accessible.

oh and on that note, one more question for Relic

Can we expect the same or even improved support for mods like CoH did? Which let's face it, if it wasn't for the work of some of the best community that produced the tools necessary to even start working on the mod would not be possible since the game itself didn't have any real tools for them

ARMY SIZE: same number of units or greater numbers of units on the battlefield at one time?

CAMERA: ability to zoom in or out? or stay fixed? same with panning camera?

AI- instead of having easy/medium/hard - you should make it based on exaggerated traits of real generals;rommel, paulus, zhukov, von manstein etc.
MUSCULARTEETH - Many things, mostly to do with Art.

How different is the engine in COH2 from what we saw in DoW2: Retribution? Should we be expecting major overhauls or a more evolutionary improvements?

And when is Relic going to make a sequel to Homeworld?!?!? :D

I'm glad someone else mentioned Finland. (Kiitos Arhain)

Their conflicts with Russia (both the 'Winter war' and the 'Continuation war') would make an interesting campaign to play, from either side IMO.

So yes, I'd like to know also if Finland will somehow be worked into the game?

Not sure how Finland would be integrated though as a faction side...

i mean historically they didn't have much in terms of hardware or even tanks (though they had excellent but small air force), and fought more with terrain knowledge and excellent coordination and tactical advantage.

which is good and all but don't translate to game faction very well.

For the multiplayer Do they have anything planned for meta-game stuff like persistant scoring, unlock able rewards, clan support etc?

What are some of the units we will be seeing in the multiplayer?

are they going to have more or less base buildings this time?

will the cover system be coming back, if so any plans for improvement?

thats all i can think of right now.

Having one of the Axis skill trees convert your army to Finnish would be pretty great, you'd keep most stuff the same but you could get snow ignoring veterans and expert snipers.

Will Assault, Stonewall and Panzerkrieg make a return?

Did you like some of the ideas in the Men of War series?

I figure the first question is more likely and honestly more fair =p

Will multiplayer games be possible over a local area network (LAN)?

(Please for the love of god, include LAN!)

Perhaps it could be reworded to something like - It's been 6 years since Company of Heroes was released. Have you taken any inspiration from other games in the genre that have helped you to improve on the CoH formula?

Or something like that... ;)
