BioWare on Same-Sex Romances in Mass Effect

Unread postby News Portal » 9 May 12, 11:43 am

A recent post on the official BioWare Blog has shed some light on the lengths that the company goes to when attempting to create respectful, credible same-sex romances in Mass Effect. "I worked hard to create a character who addressed her lesbian identity in a positive and intelligent way," said Patrick Weekes of his creation, Samantha Traynor. "Not one word was written lightly," added Dusty Everman, who wrote Steve Cortez. "Some players have concerns over being 'ninja romanced'," he said, "where a relationship shifts from friendly to romantic to the player’s surprise – and those concerns seem greater for same-sex romances."

I felt I was ninja-manced in ME2.

Kelly wouldn't give me the final dance scene for some reason, so I had to come onto Jacob, then break up with him a minute later. Then I got the email invite from Kelly, lol.

Also, Dusty Everman is awesome.

I do not want to get into this kind of debate but I will say this, but Bioware added same-sex romance into the game because it was something that their customers asked for.

The way they present and promote it, I think detracts from the game.

am struggling to come up with a bioware game that didnt have allusions to same-sex romances...

its always interesting to see the romance options, even the same sex ones, its all part of the game. still need to learn a thing or two from the east...

What's to debate? Bioware realised that people other than the straight white default, not just LGBTQ folk, love playing games and would like actual representation. Just need other companies to realise that lots of other gamers would like to play characters they can relate to.

Link to Bioware's gay-romance promotion?

How so? I've never been aware of it being promoted heavily, it's just an option that's there in the game.

I can relate to the ninja romance thing. Bioware has pretty much forever encouraged you to get as friendly with people in your party as you possibly could because there were always benefits for doing it. Then in more recent games all of a sudden instead of working toward unlocking a new questline you can find your character getting cosy with Frank, when you'd have much rather pursued Sue.

And I think that might actually be a good thing the more I consider it. It makes you ponder your actions just that little bit more instead of simply shooting for the most positive thing you can say in every conversation.

ill never understand how spending so much time on even putting this in a game when the people who want it is like 1/10000 maybe even smaller odds.

Couple of quick questions for the SGRA haters :P
1: Are you male ?
2: Do you enjoy staring at a males arse ?
3: Do you want to flirt with other males ?

Did you answer: Yes, No, No ?
So you are playing a female toon and IF you want to flirt in game you want to flirt with women.
Therefore you support SGRA and need to qq less or admit you enjoy staring at a guys arse..
Which is it ?

Male questgiver: thanks, I want to be on you.
Me: fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu
