so im gunna steal my cousins cheap and nasty guitar and teach myself.
its got 3 plastic strngs (is that nylon?) and 2 metal ones lol

Yeah it's a Nylon stringed guitar, and damnit man, you're talanted enough :P I know how you feel though, I feel like I have an inner musician.. I just have NFI how to bring it out, but hey practice makes perfect!

I don't regret going steel string as I really like the sound of my guitar, but it's weird having fingertips that feel partially numb/painful as if I've burned them.

One of my guitars from my Uncle has three steel upper strings and the three lower are plastic, so who knows?

It absolutely IS music!

My mate goes by the name Tweaklab, he makes digital sounds and is ridiculously talented, might link his stuff in a more related music thread.

I don't give enough time to my guitar playing lately, even the few youtube vids of me are embarrassing. Sadly, I play my absolute best when no-one is listening, the second I have an audience (even if it's a video camera) I just lose the plot, play too fast, make mistakes and so on.

I think Metronomes are important...

You don't have to pay focused attention to them, but it helps keep timing if you can hear something in the background rather than keep track subconciously. And very, very few people have naturally good internal rhythm with no training. It's why there are so many horrible drummers...

Re: the example of a guitar teacher. Well professional teachers who play every single day have good internal timing, and can watch students and pull them up on it. But when you're starting out, wonky timing is not a great habit to get into.

Hmm, maybe it's for better sounding bass strings.

any reason why? just cheaper? easier to learn with?
i reckon this geetarr is made of plywood and perhaps foam with a hint of lint from a bellybutton. ive recorded proper geetars before and they WEIGH something. this one is the **** cousin of a stick, a piece of string and a cardboard box.
its a perfect way to begin. i can blame all my inabilities towards the stringed machine.

What do you mean 3 nylon and 3 steel?

Classical guitars have 3 nylon treble strings and 3 bass strings that have a nylon thread wound in metal

Sounds like a classical guitar to me....minus a string at that....

I am very much the same that way, and tend to keep to my self with my guitar playing. Learnt years ago that's how I was with it, and playing to myself is how I get the best enjoyment from it. It's a nice way to escape the real world for awhile too like that anyway :)

from watching her play, as I'm no musician, fingernails is what she uses for classical essentially plucking at the strings but you do need strong healthy nails.

cheers :)
