''I Would Have Nothing Of It'': Jay Wilson on Internal Suggestions that Diablo III Should Have Gone First or Third Person

Unread postby News Portal » 7 May 12, 2:22 pm

"Very early on in the process we had some people who argued that we should not make the game isometric, that it would be better technology, more modern, if we made a third or first-person game," said [app=4089]Diablo III[/app] Game Director Jay Wilson. "I really would have nothing of it."

Wait, so we have a GON news article about a GON news article? I guess tomorrow we'll have an article about an article where you reported about an article?

LOL. My thoughts too.

Back to the topic, I like how he mentions that character progression is dependent on acquiring items rather than level ups. I stopped playing D2 for a while when good loot wasn't dropping as much... it actually took hacked items to get me back into the game (god bless the Jamella program).

I didn't have this issue with Torchlight as good stuff was dropping constantly and I still want to keep playing for want of acquiring the next new powerful item. Hopefully, D3 will follow the frequent dropping of good items model Torchlight developed.

I think it's because not everyone will watch a seven minute video. Easier to read an article.

On loot, they've redone the loot scripts so that you gain more loot from champions and even normal mobs, and less loot from bosses.

true that. this article isn't unreasonable at all.

they started down this path with the last few major patches of D2. it's good to see them continue.

Once you have that server architecture, it's way easier to hack it."

So.. they're worried about having hackers coming in and **** **** up when there will be plenty of booster like douche bags who power level and find the quickest way to get loot to hold out for them rare drops to sell while using exploits of some kind, There will always be people like that with a system thats setup so you have the chance of making back the money you spent on it and possibly more.

And really think about it.. Of course there will be hacks for it, Every damn developer acts all high and mighty thinking that there game is virgin fresh when really its being raped behind the scenes and a lot of devs seem to be completely unaware of it.

**** Diablo 3 I'm just pirating a lan copy and play with my buddies over hamachi Because here in aussie land not all of us want to play singleplayer or local co-op games and have to be forced to go online, I rarely get dropouts since purchasing a new modem but Still do you really want to be in the middle of a battle on the really higher more difficult settings with friends and then you(or a friend) gets your whole team slaughterd because of a random spike or drop out? **** THAT.

**** disgraceful.
You want to play the game? Buy it.

If you want to then fiddle with it to enable offline play, go for your life.
But you can bloody well pay for it if you want to play.

So hold on, its 2012 and we are forced to play an isometric game that has gameplay and art no better than i remember Baldurs Gate - and they decided to have no options for personal choice of first or third person or even a zoom. How Indie.

Im assuming out of the estimated 3.5 million units to be shipped 2012 a majority would be from paying a years worth of WoW and getting the game free? Wonder if they will release those stats.

Still its a PC game a deserves to succeed even if it is retro gameplay.

Exactly!

It is amazing what people use to justify pirating a game. "It doesn't have this feature, or that feature, or the devs are idiots for such and such a reason, so screw 'em I am just going to pirate it"

Bullsh*t! If you don't like what they are doing, then don't play it. It is not reason enough to steal something.

I think forced is perhaps too strong of a word in your situation, I think you'd be better off with "Completely willingly buying a game that I know full well contains features I do not like."

Also, as a side note. **** your signature.

If you're going to criticise, don't miss the point.
