How is this a conspiracy? It's a real part of business that has been going on since the 1800s.

Definitely a big part of the American car industry and one of the reasons they went bust so badly. Not so much a current practice now.

Also people seem to expect quality to be maintained when a product becomes mass produced.

I hate slow, rambling, time wasting videos...

Give me the pertinent facts in a nice big wall of text I can get through in a few minutes...

Like this article, about a conspiracy involving car, truck, tyre and fuel manufacturers to remove cheap efficient public transport options. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Mo ... conspiracy

Well I didn't name the video.

Conspiracy or business practice its still a complete joke IMO.

I've posted this in a few places and people's complacency towards this Cartel **** is ridiculous.

What seems ridiculous to me is that people just go "Oh, it should change". What do they actually do about it? Post videos on forums...wow, so effective.

Unfortunately, in our modern society, that isn't going to do ANYTHING. If you want something to change, you have to go out there and change it. And I don't mean complain to the company. I mean start your own company.

Don't like that idea? Deal with the current way of doing things.

I didnt get past the first few mins of that video.

If you dont want your printer to break down in the first year and be thrown away then consider spending a reasonable amount on quallity equipment.

People who go buy the cheapest equipment they can find are supporting the throw away mentality, and are normally the loudest complainers.

The old saying "you get what you pay for" is still true most of the time.

obviously, and that's exactly what I intend to look at doing when I'm finished with my studies.

unfortunately though I'm a computer scientist not an engineer and software is less applicable here but we'll see how it goes.

if you kept watching you'd know it didn't break down, it spits ink into a reservoir to clean the heads and once its done that x amounts of time it says it can't continue operating. Very different to buying off the bottom shelf that breaks after a few years.

also the main example of the light bulb cartel is even worse, in the period that it was most prevalent unless you wanted to use candles exclusively you had no choice. You were forced to by a lightbulb that was actually engineered to last a far shorter time than the first lighbulbs that were invented.
