I'm waiting for one of these also for my next screen (27"). Haven't heard anything about one yet though.

I can hardly imagine the GPU power required to push 2560x1400 @ 120Hz

2560x1600 here. Got a GTX 580 which handles everything fine in max detail. Only game I've had trouble with was Skyrim in max detail, high rez textures and some lighting mod. Tribes Ascend in max detail runs a bit sluggish too.

Would never go back to a sub 30" monitor.

Do you have a pretty big desk? I just wonder whether a screen so large would mean you'd have to sit quite a ways back from it so you could see the entire screen at once.

steve_rogers42 wrote:Yea the nvidia software is a bit gumby at times, i have used both the nsurround 3d on monitor and the 3dtv play through my tv, the 3dtv play was worht the investment for the software as it allows for a bit better representation, but the monitors were better for immersion. i woulnt mind a go at the 2nd gen as apparently it has fixed the backlighting/lighting issues.

so the sli 580's gave poorer consistent frames?

Also was 60hz 3d possible or no?

i will split this thread in a minute... just too intrigued! <3

The 580's delivered less consistent frames and marginally lower ones so the rendering wasn't as smooth especially in fps games such as bf3 and bc2.
Not sure if it was the cards or the change from sbs to frame sequential but the difference was noticable.

and yes 60hz for each eye; there were issues with tridef and amd cards last year where frames were being locked to 30hz per eye via a vsync lock to stop tearing but that has since been fixed and I think there was a work around at the time anyways.
In true Amd style though 3d crossfire only started working with cat 12.3 and 12.3 cap1 crashes Portal 2 so I have to uninstall it and restart if I want to play P2

the main issue with the sammy sa27a950 is the reflective nature of the screen, apparently it improves the 3d experience but you need to game in a fairly dark room or your looking at yourself in a mirror, and the screen is near useless for general computing unless you like the dark. Not an issue for me as that rig is solely for gaming.
The 3d glasses also lack anti reflective coating on the inside so no light sources from behind or you have a rear vision mirror.

and 2560x1400 @ 120Hz is something I do look forward to and I heard rumours that sammy might have them around november.
27" is probaly as small as you'd want to go, the 3d image is best 75cm -100cm from the screen so size is good.

cheers :)

yea my 24" feels to small, whilst my 32" seems to big.

people have always said that 27" is about as big as you want to go 1080 wise

I wish it was possible to get a 1920 x 1200 16:10 120Hz Monitor.

Looks very nice, kinda like the looks of it more than the Dell. Not as wide a variety of inputs though, component/HDMI etc is a nice bonus on the Dell.
Think I'd probably go for the Dell simply because I can find it cheaper (15% off at Dell's website).
Hopefully Dell do a special price on monitors soon.

I might be keen on parting ways with my Dell soon if you're not super keen on getting it now :P

has anyone had an issue with getting eyefinity to work with the 12.4 drivers for ATI ?.... since i installed them when i go to change to TRI screen it just goes into a loop an sets up duplicate mode an wont go past it no matter what I do. I worked out a work around to get 1 big screen to pop up. but even then I cant get the arrange group to work, or bezel correction either.

Something in the new drivers **** up the cards ability to switch to Eyefinity screen.
I rolled back an it still did it, so the new drivers have screwed something major.

this shows what I am talking about a little better. So it isn't just me...

If you installed 12.4 cap1 when you installed the drivers then try uninstalling them also; with 12.3 I though I had driver issues but it related to the application profiles rather than the drivers.

cheers :)

I had a quick look and from what I read this is only 60Hz and may also be only 1080p. The 3D is passive based not active based so 120Hz isn't needed.

I may be wrong, but doesn't passive 3D halve the vertical resolution or something?
