Technically it shouldn't be available via Steam to Australians either as it hasn't received a rating, but a complaint would have to be lodged for anything to happen. The chances of that are pretty low, at least in the short term. If the game is successful it's more likely to attract attention and questions about why it doesn't have a rating...

Left 4 Dead 2 is way past its lifespan so it sure wont happen in the future. The smarter people bought L4D2 from an overseas source or put faith into being able to unlock use the restricted content.

I'd hazard a guess and say that they've looked into legislation here in Aus, realised that our R18+ category isn't yet in place and have held off on submitting until it does get passed successfully. If you're 90% sure you will fail an exam, you'll likely avoid sitting it...

sounds like a interesting legal loophole they have found. I assume other companies will follow suit on steam and just not put games forward for classification and just put in on steam for sale knowing that no one will complain.

Nothing is stopping people from ordering it from an overseas store. IANAL but since it hasn't been submitted for classification, rather than refused classification, would that make it legal to own in WA and other states with crazy laws?

I have an american account on my 360 I use to buy american games and DLC not avaliable in Australia so no biggie, but this grey area being used on steam is interesting. Wonder if other developers will used the same loophole.
