i was thinking about this the other day too, they have said we will have local content servers but not local game servers, so i wonder who they will partner with to provide the local content servers.

*fingers crossed for GON*

As pointed out already this comes from the twitter feed - there will be a full announcement tomorrow (Seattle time) on the ArenaNet blog so watch out for that if you're interested in following this more closely! (Source)

For those who might not already know, the weekend of the 27th is also Guild Wars' 7th birthday. This has always been celebrated with an in-game event, the fact that the first GW2 BWE shares the same date raises some interesting questions... perhaps ArenaNet have been planning something special? ...Or perhaps they haven't because they've been too busy with GW2 and they'll just re-run the same event from last year in the original Guild Wars :P

They also recently announced "A New Look for GuildWars.com" and in that announcement said it was due at the end of March. It hasn't appeared and they've gone quiet on the subject, perhaps another indicator something special is in the works!

Speculation is fun anyways 8)

Looks the same as closed beta, but Lions Arch will be explorable!

I am a little bit lost on this if I could get a HUD that would be great.

I have not signed up before on Anet for the Beta BUT I did do the pre order of GW2.
Am I able to be in the up and coming Beta or have I missed it by not signing up before hand?

Cheers

Sounds like they're misusing the term 'public' to mean you're not bound to an NDA. Unimpressed. :/

Sounds awesome, hoping GON can somehow host the client, kind of doubt it though. How big do you think the client download will be? If it's huge i might just buy a data block.

If you've pre-purchased correctly you should have a key which you need to register here: http://register.guildwars2.com. Everything is covered in the official FAQ: http://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/game-faq/

It is public, in the same way that a music festival is a public event but you still need a ticket to get in. Should have just used ANet's own term "BWE" in the article title to eliminate any confusion. Public != open.

Currently its 11gb, but it will probably be a little larger by the event.

It's QV Software, can't say I've heard of em beyond some shed (in Silverwater, Sydney as I recall) but you'll find details in the Official Australian GW2 Site Promises Local Cache Servers but not Local Game Servers article.

No idea if this will be in place for the BWEs or they more planning for once GW2 goes live, but would be kinder to the overseas links if this was avaialble sooner than later.

This could be interesting. Currently at 2% [650mb] I have 18Gb left of my quota for the month and 11.5 days. I could potentially burn the lot today :(

Actually you will. 11gb was what it was in closed beta... when I finish, I estimate that it will be 19.2gb.

maybe for you, but its gonna be ~19.2gig for me:

EDIT: but with more thought I now expect to be proven wrong on this one.

EDIT2: 13.4gb. It seems that the progress bar related to the number of downloaded files, not the amount of data downloaded -_-

Is there a link to the beta launcher/downloader or is it a case of "wait for the email"?
