It definitely projected and sounded better than any of the cheaper guitars though - it's amazing how noticable the difference is actually.

I just bought a Cort electric acoustic last month great sounding guitar for it's price and quite easy to play.
http://www.cortguitars.com/en/product/sfx5 is the model I got + almost had 200dollars off it, in the local guitar shops march madness sale they had on.

Why is that?

I feel I would have gotten a better sense of making sure I hit clean notes/chords rather than being able to hide behind distortion.

Yeah Tera, it does help alot, i have an old yamaha classical accoustic, beat up to ****, but the fretboard was really wide and very unforgiving with fret noise and an action u could drive a truck under, doing most of my practice drills and song practice on it really cleaned up my playing.

I still do most of my songwriting on it, get a song pretty much finalised, then switch to the electric and it feels as smooth as silk, with the added bonus of being able to speed up the song considerably without breaking a sweat if it feels like it should be faster :twisted:

I am of the mindset that if you can't play it clean on a nylon string guitar then you need to practice it alot more before recording!

When I was young I pestered my parents for an electric guitar. They wouldn't let me have one and instead gave me a classical guitar and got me classical lessons. I did that for seven years and then bought myself a cheap electric and taught myself modern guitar. The pain and frustration of learning classical was well worth it. I believe it has given me a unique style to my electric playing and I mix finger picking with pick work. I use both nylon and steel string acoustics but always prefer my nylon classical for my style of original music and for relaxed practicing.

If I were you I'd take your Suziki into a guitar repair store and get them to string it with some nice nylon strings. You don't have to play classical on it. I'd even consider a few lessons to get you on the right track. As previously advised whatever you do don't put steel stings on it.

You won't get a lot for $200 but a second hand store will get you an ok starting acoustic. But your uncle's guitar might be good because if you don't continue you haven't lost too much.

Saying that if you walk in somewhere, pick up a guitar, like it's feel and sound just buy it because it's meant for you

I love my Maton, but i have no idea if they do anything in that price range :(

I was planning on spending 450-600 on a guitar.

Then I picked up a Maton M225, $850 later.....

Mate the two guitars that you have shown are okay to start off with; Yes one of them seems to be some chipping around the bridge but that can be over looked for now ; Some one said get nylon strings to start out on that's OK to do but get some one to string them for you and tune them you can pick up tuners cheep as now days so that's not a problem;
Now as far as buying one from a second hand store someone sead don't do it well let me tell you a lot of them a guitars are of good quality and they are from people that wanted to play got fed up and sold them;
Be patient with it and you will pick it up its frustrating at first but keep at it;
Speak to you when I get back from Thailand fly out in 9H be back on the 14/5. :D

This is what I have, and it plays good. Interestingly enough, I bought it from Allan's in Adelaide around 50 bucks cheaper than what it shows on the website.

This thread made me pick up my little old Ashton for the first time in ages for a play. Strings are quite dead, but maybe its time to pick up a new set and start playing again. I really aim to get an electric again though, as I grew up learning from, and playing, Metallica riffs/songs and miss it badly!

My Seagull with BBand 2 pickups, well loved and battered...

My AER Alpha, an incredible acoustic amp, really puts out a clean sound specifically made for acoustics (Tommy Emmanual uses an AER Dreadnought)...

My big gay trophy case made up mostly of preorder game stuff but with one beautiful Matrix model bought from Sideshow Collectibles, and yes, that is the Friends box-set - http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g215/ ... 4c7ea0.jpg completely unrelated but I've never showed it off before.

I second this. A Cash Converters I live near had a Gibson Les Paul knock-off on sale a few years ago - and they were asking $2000! I asked a salesman about it as it was a clear knock off (the head label said "Gibsun") and he said they're still trying to get $1000 for it as they bought it for a large sum. I suppose its okay to buy cheaper brands there, they had a few decent Ibanezs' last time I looked, but the prices they try to get for them are sometimes outrageous.

It's probably still there today.
