Mellie's Random Game Discussion Thread

Mclaren, that games looks gorgeous. I love the immersion of my DCS games, but I also have really wanted a decent light-plane simulator for such a long time (FSX is dead to me). I know you're only looking at it just now yourself, but maybe you've uncovered more than I can find so I have a few questions;

* does it support TrackIR?
* there seems to be three versions (with the RC one costing stupid money), which one do you figure is the most suitable version?
* is there a demo?

I can't afford games right now/ever again so I can't just buy stuff on a whim (except ArmA 3, I'll sell my new childs kidney for that).

Confirming that this is true. Just wait till you try Land of the Livid Dead though. That's even worse.

More Crysis 2. I take issue with how Alcatraz blindly takes orders from everyone with no thought process of his own. If I was in such a situation i'd be a tad bit in a 'wtf is going on?' type of mood rather than blindly follow everyone's lead.

Other than that still mostly a nothing game. Something storywise finally started to happen when we got to the CELL facility but I had to leave it at that for the day.

The bit how Alcatraz would be dead without the suit is a decent bit of story i'll give you that, albeit it's the only decent bit of story so far and probably something that won't factor higher in the overall game.

Dislike the nonsensical retcons to the story such as Prophet being a Crynet spy person and the suits apparently always having been based off the alien tech.
*Insert negative stuff here.*

Sorry mate, I missed this post.

So far I know that it does support Track IR, but the others questions I am unsure of at this point. Looking more into it today.

I've only recently got into flight sims, have FSX Gold headed to me via delivery at the moment, and have a few like IL-2 1946, Wings of Prey and DCS Black Shark. I really enjoy trying to come to grips with taking a realistic approach to it, such as navigation etc without game aids. but at this point I just at the very beginnings of learning anything with any of these titles. (and using simple gear at the moment - Simple joystick - Logi Attack 3, with my DFGT pedals as rudder controls, and no Track IR yet)

AeroFlyFS does look amazing indeed, and every comment I read about it on youtube vids etc seem to be singing its praises - I will dig more into it and let you know what I discover mate :)

EDIT - This page seems to have a lot of info on it : http://www.aeroflyfs.com/index.php/en/e ... tures.html

EDIT2 - The shop for it is confusing as hell, and only wants to show you the versions that come with special usb controllers costing stupid money, like you saw - but I found the base conect, without controllers to order. It is a phyisical product (2 DVS), and aussies can only buy it through the USA shop at $65 - http://www.ikarus-modellbau.de/onlinesh ... 5.96093862

no signs of a demo anywhere as yet.

If ever you want a co-pilot for BlackShark give me a hoy. I can run you through start-up procedures, weapons procedures as well as basic flight. I've offered this service to heaps of people but no-one takes me up on it!

Sounds awesome mate, Ive only looked at it again recently to try and learn it, and today started downloading the tutorial videos. So a co-pilot in the near future would be awesome. Give me a week or so to watch these vids and let them sink in, and I will take you up on that offer!

Technically never, but its still your fault somehow :dodgy: I actually didn't play it that seriously, usually used the win + home auto startup or a script instead of doing it manually, cause it was such a drag, especially in mutliplayer. Haven't bothered getting bs 2 or playing it recently either. A10 didn't interest me either so I never got that much into the dcs series, maybe if they did another heli.. but of course all the good ones are classified.

You used quickstart? Quickstart?!"

Well there's your problem. Interacting and understanding the machine is the joy of it... even blowing stuff up is joyful only because you managed to not get shot down while using the weapons properly!

Weapons were easy to learn, and for whats its worth I did learn the startup procedure but forgot it after using quickstart long enough :P I also remember armour piercing rounds seemed quite useless, HE all the way. Never learned to use bombs either, they seemed like a huge waste of time.

Landing on the moving carrier ship in that one quick mission was probably one of the harder things I did in the game. Although, once playing mutli with some randoms, it was a scenario that involved a bunch of bases in the mountains to take out. However, there was lots of fog you had to travel through, which I managed to fluke since I'd never played that mission before, or really tried flying in fog. I just guessed from the radar how high I had to be for certain parts, since you couldn't see a thing. Anyway I managed to not crash, and one of the spectators congratulated me, I didn't have the guts to tell him I was just hopelessly **** :P Ah good times. Having to let go of the control to type was also the worst..

I'm loving DCS Blackshark...when I get the time to play it. Even just starting the bird up is amazing with the surround sound cranked. 8)

Thinking of doing up a flight video in FSX in the 747. Love flying these big birds, They feel so much different to fly over even the 747's or airbus A321's.

Gets me all happy after i land the thing following a long haul flight (not long ago completed a flight from sydney to Singapore. about 8 hours TFT IIRC)
