You hit a nerve with everyone cause you complain about the same ****, HURRRR DRM IS BAD SO THEREFORE I CAN COMPLAIN ABOUT IT EVERYWHERE AND ANYWHERE I WANT.

Just put me on your Foes list then. Not that hard.

You're entitled to disagree with my stance but you just can't go around attacking me because I make it known.

I'll get over it when publishers decide not to use **** implementations such as Origin, GFWL, activation limits or constant Internet connection requirements.

Hey. If publishers aren't going to play nice with their DRM schemes then I won't be shy about making my views known when evidence of such unfriendly schemes pops up (or even if it's a very likely scenario as is the case here).

Two things really annoyed me about Crysis 2... well, three things... okay, make that four.

1) Crysis didn't have "much" of a story (i.e. it's pretty typical and not detailed) so it annoys me that Crysis 2 is SO convoluted/disjoined/whatever from Crysis. HOW the hell do you screw up the story of something that has so little story.

2) It feels as if there was a Crysis 1.5 that they never released. It's like telling a story of "I went to the shops today to buy some [...] and then the old geezer slipped over! I couldn't believe it that I went to the hospital and saw this." Okay that's probably a TERRIBLE analogy. In my head the Koreans had the similar technology as the American's Nanosuit - it wasn't alien. (Making it alien only seems to convolute the story a bit, in my opinion because then it throws up the question of how did the Koreans and Ameircans get the technology, why are they SO SIMILAR, etc etc) And HOW does Crysis 2 explain the thousands of enemies flying out from the mountain at the end of Crysis 1? What happened to Prophet inside the sphere. What happened to Helena and Nomad? Did they die? Why did they die and Prophet didn't? Why did Prophet get "taken" but not killed? (Seems he got upgraded) None of this is explained or even touched upon. Wouldn't it make WAY more sence for Nomad to be the soldier who got augmented with Prophets new armour, and for Helena to be the scientist they meet up with? Wouldn't it make more sence that New York was FROZEN and that's how people died? The whole virus thing came out of nowhere and was just... I'm not sure. It seemed like a zombie setting.

3) The aliens are completely redesigned. How do you go from Matirx-esque squid in flying exoskeletons with a blue and black colour pallet, who thrive in cold conditions to squid in bi-pedal exo-suits with a red pallete, who spread alien disease. WHY THE HELL WOULD THEY CHOOSE FEET OVER FLYING AROUND

4) They took everything that was great about Crysis (fairly unique controls/movement, shooting, gameplay etc, large open maps, exploration, etc) and just stripped it down to the Call of Duty basics. Crysis 2 didn't feel like Crysis. I know that seems like a silly thing to say with onlty one game (and an expansion) in the "series" - but it wasn't Crysis either in gameplay, or in setting, or in design. If they wanted to make Call of Duty: 2025 they should have just made a seperate IP, not use the Crysis name and ruin it.

I'd also like for all of you to notice I haven't once mentioned consoles until this point, but I believe that the limitations of the console and an attempt to appeal to a wider audience as well as trying to "prove" itself to console communities is what caused these changes. In any case, Crysis was a hugely disappointing game for me, no matter how I look at it, and even if I exclude console vs PC arguments. I don't imagine Crysis 3 will be any better and I don't think Origin is going to provide a good enough servive that I would want more **** on my computer. I like Steam. It works. It's good. I would much prefer to have my games in one place and Steam offers that for me.

The end.

I should really play the first two one day. I only ever used it for benchmarking and multiplayer at LANS. Any chance you'll be able to get us a sneak peak at Crysis 3 before the other places get it? :P

You pretty much answered yourself there DoHo. Crysis 2 was the game in which console players were introduced to the whole nano-suit/Crysis setting. Which meant to continue the story directly from Crysis/Crysis Warhead would've confused a whole bunch of console gamers who didn't play those games.

It's blatantly obvious Crysis 2 was console focussed with PC being the poor rejected guy stuck in the 'friend zone'. So I reckon Crytek tried their best to create a new story arc with minimal links back to the original game (i.e. Prophet). That's probably why Prophet/Alcatraz will again be the protagonist in Crysis 3, rather than going back to Nomad. Personally I loved the fact that Nomad actually talked in the game which I found made the game a little more immmersive, as opposed to "me no speakee" Alcatraz.

I can't wait to see how Crysis 3 pulls off the apocalyptic overgrown-cityscape setting. Finally a post-apocalyptic environment which doesn't involve deserts! Yay!

I finished Crysis on ultra settings a few months ago after upgrading my computer to fairly high specs. Needless to say the game still looked gorgeous (better than most FPS today IMO) and finally ran at a framerate which was acceptable. In fact, I should probably give Warhead a shot again as well.

The "rebooted" storyline for C2 to allow console gamers an easier way in to the series was something consciously done and openly expressed during the lead up to release. There's a 6-part comic series that ties in the events between C1 and C2 in more detail if you're interested in finding out more. The story for Crysis is big and leaves you often with WTF's but being a multi-part franchise, pieces that don't make sense now, start to make sense later on when more things are revealed, like Prophet's involvement with Hargreave during C1 times. There's lots more to time  You can be sure Prophet will be vocal for the next one too.

The Crysis story wasn't convoluted to begin with. "In 20202 KPA forces awoke a dormant alien civilisation that predated humanity by 2 million years. A US Battle Fleet is sent to contain the alien forces however a counterattack by the aliens decimates the fleet and the events of the island end with millions of exosuits leaving the island..." Is that so difficult? Hell, Prophets opening story in Crysis 2 is much longer than that. It's more confusing to add all these new elements.

Flash forward three years later and nothing makes a god damn lick of sense in Crysis 2 because everything was changed. My biggest disappointment is they changed the aliens completely in design and nature - that has NOTHING to do with story. It was just an unnecessary change that to me said they didn't care about the integrity of the series. They were creating Crysis 2 for a new audience with limited tech.

They released a comic that explained the lead up a fair bit, might be worth checking it out.

c1/warhead were fighting on the island where the aliens were burried. The koreans were researching them already(as well as the US), which is where the story all starts... Read the comic to clear up the sphere/aliens/noman

THe aliens in the mountain have been there for thousands of years. The ones in c2 are new recently arrived, more high tech aliens.

So basically they didn't care about the story enough to actually include it into the game?

In any case, I don't like the way Crysis 2 was designed. It wasn't related to the original game enough and it ended up being a Call of Duty ... sibling (I won't say clone).
