Yeah I think I'll give it a go, getting some good props here so can't be all that bad :)

Wow, what an excellent ending to the season! Now we begin the count down to Season 4.. why the hell do series only seem to have a dozen episodes in them now? What ever happened to 20+ episodes per season? :/

Um, Justified has always had this many episodes.

And half of the shows in the US have seasons of 13 episodes, which is 0.25 of a year. The only shows that really have longer runs are shorter (half an hour) comedies.

I was more thinking back to the days of Stargate.. didn't they normally have 21 or 22 ish episodes a season?

Yeah, but pretty much every show these days will be a short run. At least, all of the "good" ones.

Game Of Thrones
Mad Men
Breaking Bad
Boardwalk Empire
Justified
Deadwood
Homeland
Southland
The Walking Dead
Treme
The Killing

When you see that list you can see what they're going for. High end and well-made shows tend to opt for shorter runs, as it means they can pump a lot more money into each episode. When you remember that Justified is on FX and look at the above list, you can see who they're trying to emulate, which is the vastly successful HBO, and more recently, AMC.

I also came up with some other shows that run for more than 13 on reflection- shows like CSI, which are money-making TV filler with no in-depth story arc; comedies, that will almost always run for half hour slots; and sci-fi, such as Fringe and Stargate SG-1 (Universe went for a ~10 episode season).

Halfway through S2 and it's getting better than S1 which was getting predictable and repetitive, also i've been noticing a few metal tee's... immortal, dragonforce and dimmu borgir :fist:

I watched the first episode when it was released and I thought it was rubbish, started watching again after this thread got 4 million bumps and I've enjoyed it since i got a few episodes in.

Season one was a bit meh, but it always takes a few seasons for characters to get their groove on

Yeah stick with it, it gets really interesting. Sort of like a Sons of Anarchy build up. Something is always going down and you just know the end is going to be off the chain.
