*UDPATED - added 4th race with Formula BMW, and the Hotlap Challenge changes from using the XFG to now using the XRG - I think this will make for a better mix on the day.

**UPDATED - Teams so far now listed

***UPDATED
RACETIME : SATURDAY 28th APRIL - 7pm (EST)

After speaking to Tera, who has taken on the job of organizing the Gonlympics, I've been given the go ahead to outline the format for the Live For Speed events.

Rather than making the LFS event a single race, it will run as a multi-race "Mini Series" taking place on a singular date/time, with a separate week long "Hotlap Challenge" - Both events will be Team Based, and results will be based on a totaled points system.

It should be noted, all events will use DEMO CONTENT ONLY, to allow the event to be open to any forum members.

THE MINI SERIES:
The Mini Series will see drivers assigned to two teams [RED] and [BLUE] and will be run over 4 various races, with each race being of 5 laps in distance. At the end of a race, points will be allocated for positions, with the points system being as follows;

Top 6 places score points (for driver and team);
1st - 6 pts
2nd - 5 pts
3rd - 4 pts
4th - 3 pts
5th - 2 pts
6th - 1 pts

The race events for the "Mini Series" will have no qualifying, with random grid assignments (by game) to keep the playing field slightly more even for all experience levels.

The races will be;

Race 1 - XFG (XF GTI) at Blackwood GP (BL1) - 5 laps

Race 2 - XFG (XF GTI) at Blackwood Rallycross (BL2) - 5 laps

Race 3 - XRG (XR GT) at Blackwood GP (BL1) - 5 laps

Race 4 - FBM (Formula BMW) at Blackwood GP (BL1) - 5 Laps

At the end of all 4 races, points will be tallied to declare the Team, and Driver, Mini Series champions.

The Mini Series event is expected to take around 1 hour in total, with date and time yet to be confirm - Teams will be random, and confirmed within the next days.

THE HOTLAP CHALLENGE:

The Hotlap Challenge will take place offline, during the week building up to the Mini Series event, and will be a single car/track challenge. The Hotlap Challenge winner will be the fastest time set by an XRG (XR GT) around the Blackwood GP circuit. It will use the points and teams assigned to the Mini Series to determine the team outcome of the Hotlap Challenge.

Example of the Hotlap Challenge results. (Top 6 times score points)
1st - 1.35.10 Driver A [RED] scores 6pts
2nd - 1.35.65 Driver B [RED] scores 5pts
3rd - 1.35.87 Driver A [BLUE] scores 4pts
4th - 1.36.01 Driver C [RED] scores 3pts
5th - 1.36.35 Driver C [BLUE] scores 2pts
6th - 1.36.40 Driver B [BLUE] scores 1point

In the example, Team RED would have scored 14pts compared to Team BLUE with 7pts. In this way totaled points give overall Hotlap Challange Team results.

How to compete in the Hotlap Challenge;
To compete in the Hotlap Challenge you must set a "valid" laptime with the XRG around Blackwood GP using the HOTLAP mode in the main menu of Live For Speed (the top right of your HUD in LFS will show the valid or invalid status for your laps). This is because the hotlapping mode of LFS has an inbuilt validation system, that checks for hacks and things such as corner cutting.

This replay then must be saved and kept for verification of your lap time at the end of the event. You may post improved laptimes to this thread as you achieve them, but you must keep your best replay ready to submit at the close of the hotlap challenge. The close of the hotlap challenge will coincide with the start of the Mini Series event.

OVERALL TEAM CHAMPIONS
The overall team champions, for the entire Live For Speed Tournament, will be decided by totaling the entire points won in the Mini Series and Hotlap Challenge.

TEAMS:

[RED]
exe3
lucassot
Tera
mclaren7703
shodan (maybe)

[BLU]
Da Chucky
Brat81
Scarface.au
Matty (maybe)
v4moose (maybe)
NVRMR

THINGS TO NOTE:
- Time and date yet to be confirmed.
- Teams yet to be confirmed.
- Drivers will be asked to change their ingame name to include [RED] or [BLUE] at the start on their name, depending on your team assignment.
- I will try and organize some practice sessions between now and the event.

Also its really not too late to add a few more drivers to this event if there are people interested. I am also happy to try and help any newcomers to LFS if the need any advice on setting it all up, or driving the cars.

Most of all, have fun, and thanks to Tera for his efforts with the Gonlympics - UPDATES posted soon.

Feel free to post any questions.

Let me know if you need any advice on getting LFS setup (or anything with it), its menu isn't the most user friendly :)

If it doesn't conflict with the other tournaments you can put me in the "reserved list" so I can even the teams up if they fall on uneven numbers.

That would be great Matty, a few more drivers to level out the team numbers, and grids, and it will be a fun event :) Time/Date hasn't been worked out yet, but will be making sure it doesn't run at same time as other events.

I'll add you to Blue with a "maybe" note next to your name :)

Not trying to steal any thunder from the above video but this is one of my favourite all time LFS videos. Godamn I miss this game so much hey, racing was so raw & in your face compared to a lot of sims now.

I am an avid iRacer and this looks intriguing. Is it clean racing only i.e. no car contact, no cutting corners etc? And are 5 lap sprint races properly indicative (is there damage/tyre wear)?

Don't know if I have time to learn how the driving model all goes though. Does it have a live spectator/replay/camera system? If it does and you need an independent race director (just call me Charlie Whiting), I'd be happy to volunteer. I don't know any of the drivers!

That was always my favorite vid too mate and I used to watch it all the time, and was probably partly what inspired me to make LFS vids (I used to have many back in those days) - That vid just sums up LFS so well.

A lot of us are iRacers or or ex-iRacers too mate, and I think its safe to say we are all in it for a safe clean race, though accidents can happen as there are guys of all different experience levels involved. That said, intentional crashing and bashing wouldnt be allowed, its wanted that this is a fun casual race, but a respectful one too.

LFS has a very natural drive feel to it, and once really reigned as king of the driving models, its aged a bit now, but any sim racer will adapt to it with ease.

If you click the LFS logo in first post it will take you to the demo download here (is only 130mb) which is being used for the event. Its well wroth trying it out (Full game is included in the file, but needs a license to unlock, which is about $36)

It does have replay and spectating features, and its very flexible in this area, I can probably post some link to relevant info later today, so feel free to get involved in any way you like mate.

I think the WR for that is in that 32's :shock: lol. Im no where near that pace, I think back in the day I could do 33's with the XFG, but at moment I'm sitting around 36's with the XRG..time to improve though.

Make LFS Pretty :D

LFS is getting on in years a bit now, and so some of its track textures and such look a little low res, but many texture packs out there are really terrible at keeping the normal LFS look, and end up being a mixture of things thrown together and look quite simply horrid.

Ive added links to 3 files for texture/skin download that keep the simple LFS look, but are higher res textures, and really well worth having. They are also the only ones I use.

Download Hi Res Tracks 136.1mb zipfile

Download - Hi-Res Tyres 2 small files (place in data/dds of LFS dir)

Download - AI Cars Race Paint jobs/skins (AI must keep default naming, AI1, AI2 etc) 78.9mb zip file
