Valve's Hardware is Wearable Computing

Unread postby News Portal » 15 Apr 12, 1:48 pm

Valve's recent tacit admission that they were developing hardware has been slightly clarified in a blog post from one of Valve's founders, Michael Abrash. In his blog post Abrash reveals that he is working on 'wearable computing', "mobile computing where both computer-generated graphics and the real world are seamlessly overlaid in your view".

Abrash explains that "we’ve gone from desktops through laptops and notebooks to tablets (...) the logical endpoint is computing everywhere, all the time – that is, wearable computing". How this relates to finally announcing Half-Life 3 is not yet known, but with a company like Valve putting resources behind this, it's a very exciting time for gamers everywhere.

I wonder if there will be any major distinction between this and Project Glass...

A lot of experimentation has been down with wearable computers - in particular #d goggles that overlay images, will be interesting to see what the expertise and dollar power of Valve will bring - I imagine that 3d goggles will be the standard thing - will be interesting to see if they use them for purely gaming applications or for more general applications - would be kind of cool to look at a bus stop for example and have it bring up a list of arrival and departure times etc..

Paper bags not very enviromentally friendly. You should switch to potato sacks to increase replacement intervals and minimise waste. For shame :D
