That'd be excellent mate, CS:S will definitely be there so any help would be appreciated.

Soldat/QL have been suggested and are pretty much definitely due to them being free, will have to add LoL to the list for the same reasons.

This is shaping up to be something quite special.

Maybe, like the real Olympics, you'd have a list of potential events and prospective GONthletes can put their name down for up to X events. Events which don't get enough interest get cut and affected GONthletes can select replacement events if they wish?

Problem I see is getting everyone evenly divided into GOR/GOB "countries" such that nobody has to play TF2 for Red and SC2 for Blue, for example. That's easier to sort out if everyone only has one "event", but I'd imagine people would prefer to have a couple of attempts at scoring for their side? :)

Just some of my thoughts. Interesting idea. :)

Live For Speed could possibly be used rather than Dirt, as anyone could download the demo (only 130mb, and no time limits on it) and could race either RallyCross, Formula BMW's, or little hatch backs around a circuit (think like the GP Celebrity races) ..GON also has servers for Live For Speed. 12 car grids in the demo version.

That would also be cool, been wanting to pull out my racing wheel again. :)

I'm curious, any thoughts on recording/spectating/shoutcasting for the different matches?

I would say, once the pool of names interested have been listed, then a random draw assigns them to either Red or Blue for the entire event regardless of game (why not even a third if there is lots of interest) - then within their team people can nominate to which events they want to take part in, and could have a team leader for each side, helping to sort their pool of players into events.... just more ideas

@exe3, I could certainly edit up a recording of any LFS replays if that was used. I'm sure plenty of people in events could as well. Could upload to a group Gonlympics youtube channel even. Im sure i've seen people here with knowledge on streaming live too, which is always great to see.

I would say if you want a match recorded you'd either have to do it yourself or ask someone nicely to, unless there are going to be designated spectators for everything :P

Should think up some interesting challenge things if we get tiebreakers. Like if it's between two people get them to choose any MP game they both have to have the showdown in (or even getting the best SP score in something), or make them do a rematch with a silly gamemode, ie low grav knife fights for CSS...

Speaking of CSS, we should do huge gungame sometime, maybe to kick this off? Could be used to rank players even?

edit: With cod4, would we have to download a profile with all the guns unlocked? I lost my profile agesssss ago and there's no point if you don't have the AK-47 :P

Similar to what you said, my initial plan was to create a registration thread that listed all the available "events".

I'd then get people to post which events they are planning on competing in. After the registration period has passed I'd split those competing into the two teams. Obviously it could get a little messy when people are competing in many events but I don't really want to restrict people from joining in too much.

I'm also thinking of implementing an MVP voting system for the team "events".

Also, the updated events list;

CSS
TF2
BF3
DoD:S
SCII
CoD4
Dirt 1/2/3 depending on which the majority has
C&C RA2/Generals depending on majority
Live For Speed
Quake Live
Soldat
League of Legends

I meant more along the lines of if GON itself wanted to cover the event.

/edit

I thought that you couldn't play RA2 or generals online anymore. Also Tribes Ascend is full free now isn't it? That should be added to the list although other genres probably need to be considered.

We should have some sort of wacky crazy hilarious final event to finish up.

Possibly having different events on different days might be a good idea too, splits it up a bit.

sign me up,

be interesting to see one of each game that 'node has a server for being the 'main' attractions and then others on the side, a different game for as many grouped or sub forums would be an interesting idea...

a STALKER or Sins Of A Solar Empire multiplayer match would be ultimate lulz.

or NWN dueling...
