Seriously It's a $20 game... There will be people who can't afford $90 for D3 and can only afford to pay the $20. T1 was a great little game, could finish it in a weekend session but was a good little game at the time, for that price T2 could provide the same enjoyment to some.
Why should I spend money on something I won't play? I never said it was doomed, I said I'm not going to bother buying it because I'll have D3 which will be leaps and bounds better.

It'll probably be a great game, yes, but it will be designed as a very casual experience. They're not really trying to compete with Diablo for player investment - they just want people to play it for a week or so and break it out at LAN games.
As a Diablo-alternative, I favour Path of Exile because of its free to play model. Rather than selling a lot of copies to a mass market, they're effectively banking on continued involvement by a core player base who will continue to spend money in the shop. This makes it more suited to someone who wants to keep playing a game long term, since it's designed for those people.
