Unread postby News Portal » 6 Apr 12, 12:31 pm

Bohemenian Interactive have published a series of interviews with their developers, in which they demonstrate [app=8252]ArmA III's[/app] overhauled animation, movement and lighting systems. Diving animations have been added, as well as tailored reload animations and proper ragdoll support. Click here to see a video of the new systems in action.

Considering how poorly Arma 2 runs on High end machines, i'm dreading to see how Arma 3 performs. Almost guaranteed to be a buggy mess for quite a while at launch as well (still can't wait)

Operation Flashpoint made my PC at the time strain and groan...until I upgraded.

ArmA Armed Assault made my PC at the time cry in agony..until I upgraded.

The ArmA 2 series left me rebooting after many lock ups as frames rates crawled along at a snails pace...until I upgraded.

ArmA 3 will totally bring my current budget machine to a grinding halt, and will provide my next reason to upgrade..and will be totally worth it. :)

They're releasing an alpha and beta version of the game to the public this time, so it can be tested a lot better than their previous works, which is a great idea! and well overdue, as all the their games are sadly buggy as ****. Which sucks, because they're amazing games, Arma 2 is one of my favourites.

This is looking like it could the best work they've released though, even watching some of the video's of the combat and stuff, it all looks like it works a lot better than the previous games, everythings flowing properly for once lol

The Arma games (and the original flashpoint+expansions) have always had the potential to be total blockbusters, the problem is that they''re always lacking the quality control department so they always come out looking and feeling half finished. I've been waiting a LONG time for them to get one right so we can all get the awesomeness we deserve.

I hope that in trying to get more people to play arma they don't taint it with things that make it too noobified. Better animations and physics sure go along way in making arma 3 more realistic (at least visually) than arma 2.

An overhaul to the games lighting would be great, because quite frankly ArmA 2's shadows were arse.

They don't need to "noobify" it but there's certainly a lot that can be done to make it more accessible without ruining the simulation feel. I've always thought that the menu system in game (inventory/interface etc) needs to be fixed somehow, it's always just felt painful to use, I like the base design but there's just something about the way they implemented it that feels a little off and I think the small playerbase reflects that, the game just doesn't click for many people and most that I talk to can't put their finger on why.

If they released without mod tools there would be an uprising. I'm sure it'll release with similar mods to arma 2.

Vid looks fantastic. Also, Bohemia interactive, instead of Bohemian - first word in the article. I now have queen stuck in my head. Cheers....

Yeah Arma could easily use some interface love to remove the entry barrier. But yes! Can't wait to have it crashing on my computer soon!

cos ppl are morons and like CoD kill streaks and power ups

arma is a sim (not a total every button is usable sim but a sim none the less) not many ppl like them these days

even noobifying the UI would be hard to maintain the sim'ness to it

(just look what they did to microsft flight)

kids these days dont want to spend 20 minutes packing gear for them and their squad , then another 30 minutes driving out to a patrol zone, only to find nothing there , or get blown up instantly from an IED on the side of the road they didnt see. they want insta action, kill streaks , high kill/ death ratio's and game stats.

these are the reasons why mainstream gamers dont like the opflashpoint/ arma series.

slow UI's are just a by product of a complicated game (ive always thought of the slow UI as a way to slow the game down to be more realistic as honestly changing weapons/ getting up from prone, or doing many things in game are still alot faster than reality)

and so yes the ui makes the games learning curve higher, but so what, its a sim and sim's take time to learn.

anyhoo ive pratted on for too long. i like many others, i will be waiting patiently for arma 3 next year :)

oh and also

shlaimon wrote:mod tools?

if you knew the arma games, thats a lol thing to say. the reason arma is around and lives as long as it does is because of the size of the modding community. if they pulled an EA/ DICE and removed mod support, arma would dissapear faster than...well i cant think of a smart arse answer to that, but it would kill the game.

Look forward to it.

Hopefully it doesn't have a dying/dead/absent Australian online community like all the other BIS games.
That's the main thing that has killed them for me.
Most times I'm free to play there's only a handful of people playing... and they're usually well into a game so if I join in, I struggle to 'keep up' with what's happening.
