Google's HUD Glasses Confirmed

Unread postby News Portal » 5 Apr 12, 1:04 pm

There was a rumour floating around a little while ago that Google were developing sweet new glasses straight out of the future that would contain a HUD for all your on-the-go Googling needs. Turns out these rumours were true, as Google has now confirmed on Google+. Project Glass is a simple and elegant name for a concept that, while still in the early stages of development, is one step closer to the virtual reality of sci-fi movies.

I'm buying them, don't care if I look like a douche.

It will make my Garrus voice more appealing to the ladies.

Hooray, now our privacy can be r#ped in an even more viciously brutal manner.

Do you crazies really want a company knowing literally what you are looking at at all times? That's one step away from monitoring your thoughts. Or am I seriously the only person on earth who thinks that's an appalling proposition?

Wow, HUD glasses to monitoring thoughts is quite a jump.

I was wondering when these would start popping up around the place, There are a few other companies trying to develop these style of glasses too.
I think UniSA are doing research on either this or a similar thing too. (Or so I hear, I haven't bothered to track down the project yet, so I can't confirm)

I don't wear glasses/sunglasses ever, but for these, maybe I'll make the change...

Just because they are connected, doesn't mean the company is collecting everything. For one, the mobile data required to upload your vision constantly would be too massive.

Do you have a smart phone, the companies must be tracking your every move already by your logic with GPS.

lol, are you kidding? Apple and Google both got into MASSIVE hot water over doing precisely this a few months ago.

I hope you don't own a kindle :P

It's human nature to want to improve yourself; Augmenting yourself doesn't, in any way, remove your humanity. I don't think you can do anything to make yourself less 'human'.

Also hells horses Metagame better be the future.
What can change the nature of a man?

You'll be singing a different tune when you're 90 years old and you're prosthetic hip starts recording and uploading all your credit card numbers and vital passwords to the Y2K bug!! Trust me! The more we delay Y2K the angrier it gets!! When the beast finally does strike I want to be as far away from anything computerised as possible.

Yeah... I think you need to do some reading about what they are collecting via your smartphone. Which does, as it happens, include extensive location data amongst other things. Using GPS is preferable to the network/wifi based location services, as GPS operates locally on your device and does not (as far as has been determined) phone home to Google.

It is not possible to be too cynical about Google's motives. They charge nothing for all of this great stuff yet they are one of the most valuable companies in the world. What does this tell you? What is the value they produce? What is their product (hint: not search engines or location services or maps or AR glasses)? In fact, the question should probably be "
Hidden: show
who is their product?
"
