Finished Mass Effect 3 and yeah that was an extremely terrible ending. I'm not as emotionally scarred as others given I knew what to expect but still it was pretty freaking terrible.
One of the big issues is that it's just irrelevant.
I can't honestly think of what the point that planet was that Normandy crash lands on. WHY did they crash land on it? And more importantly, WHY does it even freaking exist? It was pointless, served no purpose to the point where I can't even make up one. It was a nothing. It's seriously confusing.
And then you get to the points made a million times already. Story was irrelevant and severely contradictory to the rest of the story (no matter what lies Bioware try to spin), didn't take your actions into account, made no logical sense, had Garrus on the new planet despite him charging the beam with me. -_-
Also I was forced to kill the Geth because of the derp endings.
It was just extremely lazy on Bioware's part and quite frankly it wasn't just the ending, the
entire game was sub-par.
The story right from the word go was pretty dumb.
The crucible as a plot device was boring at best and outright idiotic at worst. It was a stupid plot device, convenient and cliched and they just went ahead and built the thing without knowing a THING about it. For all they knew it was a Reaper weapon planted there designed to kill organics when finished.
The story throughout was also poor. The Genophage angle was dull. The previous games made it interesting because it focused on how the Krogans dealt with it and such. ME3 just turned around and full went 'let's cure it', um...ok? What happened to Grunt? He was supposed to be a new breed of Krogan that was supposed to "ignore" the genophage, what ever happened to that storyline?
Also the Quarians just going off to start there war. I get there needed to be some kind of confrontation, it's been building up since the first game but surely it could have been handled better. Maybe it's because the new writer decided to outright have the Reapers invade that made the Quarian/Geth war so dumb in the context of global invasion but it's seriously kind of mindboggling.
And let's speak about Paragon options (I only did Paragon but I assume Renegade is probably the same). Why is it that every Paragon option automatically makes everyone bend to your will despite their prior convictions? Especially when Shepherds little Paragon speech is piss weak every single time. It's mindboggling just how bad a lot of the writting is. Take for example the end of the Quarian missions, that Admiral desperately wants to fight the Geth but Shepherd gives one of the weakest f*cking speeches i've ever heard which then makes the Admiral hesitantly (not convincingly in the slightest, so terrible the dialogue and acting there) hold back the attack and then yay everything's peachy. Really? Hnng.
I've already spoken about why the hell Earth was so much more important than Palaven or Thessia and I think Bioware realized this, why else would they have 'magic'd' (as others have described it) the Citadel to Earth? Suddenly there actually is a reason to go to Earth.
They like to tell us about a lot of stuff rather than show us, probably because everytime they try to show us it falls unconvincingly flat.
And finally a moment of silence to all the forgotten species that deserved better. Batarians. Vorcha. Yahg. Hanar. Elcor. Keepers.
The game has also squarely forgotten it's supposed to be an RPG. All they've managed to do is make an average shooter and a far below average RPG. You lose neutral dialogue options, dialogue options in general are lost, there are far fewer convo choices, exploration has been removed and the Citadel is the only hub world left. Side quests are mostly just fetch quests (me thinks they've learnt some very bad habits making SWTOR there).
And finally, let's not forget a myriad of glitches and bugs, the game was outright rushed. I frankly missed the Engineers relationship because you can't get it unless you're friends with Ashley due to a bug (I had Kaiden so yeah...). Also
adored the constant animation glitches in cutscenes, it was cute the first time but then when it kept happening during chunks of the game it just got aggravating (animations not blending, people facing the wrong way making the head spaz out, some people not even being in the shot, the list goes on).
Overall a 7/10 game and frankly i'm being generous. It was an epic disappointment made all the more worse due to how good the previous two games were.
