Man, That PCPP thread has a bunch of "white knight" retards in it.

By letting the staff grab everything before opening time, DSE has made itself look bad in the eyes of customers, something that never should be done!

If you put something on sale in a retail store, the public is entitled to have a fair chance of buying it. (AKA, not have your staff buy it all up before opening time and put it on ebay).

Since a lot of you failed to read the rebuttal:
IAmTheGhoster wrote:Hi everyone, I haven't been posting on here for a very long time, but I thought i would speak up.

So I work at Dick Smith in Queensland. I don't know what the situation is like anywhere else, but just around my work region.

Firstly, to those complaining about low store stock: IT WASN'T SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE THIS! The sale wasn't supposed to have much pre-sale advertising, and was DEFINITELY not supposed to have the list of everything on sale until it started. We've had many gaming sales like this before, some of them very good, and it was meant to go like any other. We didn't need to advertise the ridiculous prices because we knew the items would sell themselves. Some **** leaking the product list ruined that.

It was a clearance sale, and by its very nature, it was selling stuff we already had nearly nothing of, and that wasn't going to sell until it was marked down (for the most part). Hence why we didn't advertise the items on sale, because that would be a **** move to make (as well as being illegal - bait and switch and all that).

Secondly, in regards to staff buying the stock first. Yep, totally true and I don't feel one iota of guilt. Again, it was meant to be quiet, and no-one would have even known (because it's happened before). Also, we get paid ****. Like, really ****. Most checkout chicks get paid more than us, and we do a crapload more work, so we take every benefit we can get. Would you have honestly done differently in our situation?

All the problems of this massive cock-up stemmed from one asshat leaking that product list. Sorry you guys had a big letdown, but my empathy is rather low from copping **** from customers all day.

Didn't they mention on Facebook or Twitter when the list came out that it was in fact true that there was a sale, if they didn't want the commotion why didn't they just say nothing or that it was false or not as big as leaked.

I might be wrong, let me know if i am, might have been a unofficial quote.

I figured staff would gank the gear for themselves.
I phoned DSE SA Glenelg friday last week and was told the sale is for staff only.

And that there was no stock of 360's, 3DS's and Logitech gear.
Anything I'd remotely want to buy myself...

Id say mistake on marketing team as its not stores faults if they have no stock and a sale is advertised...

Staff in practically all areas retail get first pick or are able to reserve stock 'out the back', I know I do.

People missed out on stuff and they are cut about it. There was no promise that stocks of consoles would be plentiful. DSE arent going to order extra stock for a clearance sale. The idea is to clear existing stock

I can't feel too bad about this. Good on the staff for grabbing a few bargains while they can. They work in retail. Retail is dying, stores are closing. If I worked in retail I'd be worried about my future.
It won't just be a Gaming sale one of these days, it will be a 'Closing Down' sale.
What does Dick Smith sell that one can't get cheaper (often by a lot) elsewhere? I figure they'll be gone soon enough, leaving only the likes of JB and...well, I can't think of any others!

I went into one in South Tweed and just missed the one copy of The Witcher 2 Enhanced Ed. (PC)for $15- . Raced up to Tweed to find one on the shelf - empty box. (they had Shogun 2 as well).
The guy at the counter threw it in the bin - out of stock.
Then I turned around and saw G27 wheels for $139 - . Started out to buy a game or two for $15- and suckered myself into a G27. The G27 sale was supposed to have ended, but they gave me and another impulse buyer the good price anyway. So kudos to the staff at DSE Tweed. Now, what to do with my MOMO Wheel....
A few others walked away with console games and Logi mice.
The salesman at the Tweed shop said the sale was supposed to start on the 10th, but didn't say if it was off due to the leak.
I think I may have another look then anyway.

@ Panty Raider - The prices mostly weren't marked down (not at the Tweeds), you had to have the item scanned to find if it was on the sale price list.
