Is this a different version of viral maketing perhaps? IE:the leaking of details

Went down to the colonades store at roughly quarter to 9 and there was bugger all stuff there as expected, if you think I am miffed about that think again I gotta get my aircon replaced on my car $600+ I'd rather do that.

From Ozbargain

Heads up to all who will miss out today. After work last night I grabbed a heap of stuff that will be available on EBay later tonight. I have 4 Logitech PS3 wheels, 2 Xbox 360s, 14 12 month live memberships, 18 3000 MS points and 37 various games. I'm setting up an eBay account today, I will post a link later to my EBay store, don't miss out on these awesome bargains and happy bidding.

Yeah, this was a bit of a wash for me :(

The first store we went to had dozens and dozens of LIVE points ready to grab, only for us to discover that the LIVE points on sale are the old, boxed versions of the cards, the ones in shell cases that used to live behind the counter. The ones they stopped stocking months ago. So me and about half a dozen other guys each went and put back our handful of LIVE cards.

Both that store and the one we went to on the way home had pretty much zero games either, except for Nintendo stuff that didn't interest me. So yeah! Pretty much a huge let down.

Also, huge jerk move by the eBay guy above.

I'm watching the eBay listings today. A little influx so far, but I'm waiting til later tonight to check how many of those special edition consoles (i.e. rugby one) are going up as they are clearly from today.

It's very disappointing that they didn't limit the amount of things you could purchase, should've been limit 1 per customer across the range as not to get people that snapped them up. Been various reports of people coming in and buying 5+ of everything.

It most definitely does count as advertising.

There's probably a case to answer for being a possible bait and switch tactic. Get heaps of people to come to store, have only other things available to buy.

Does that mean if I go in and ask for a $20 DSi as advertised they have to honour it?

I don't think so, as you haven't been scammed, so there's no monetary compensation due to you. It's a bait and switch case, but I'm not sure what remedies are available.

If you are after that console, it only has 4GB storage.
Compatible hard drive which is not in stock in my area: http://dicksmith.com.au/product/YG5467/xbox360-hard-drive-250gb.jsp
I have one of the first xbox 360 arcades and getting a hard drive back then was the most annoying.

They may be covered be the fact they stated that stock was limited. Bit dodgy none the less, not that I normally but from them anyway but it makes me less inclined to go in future.

People missed out on the items they wanted because of ridiculous prices, low stock and profiteering wankers. Gee, who saw THAT coming?

People need to temper their expectations a bit around these sorts of sales IMO, or you just set yourself up for disappointment. If you get a good bargain, fine, but if you don't then don't bellyache about it. It achieves nothing.

If it seems too good to be true it usually is. Even the Ebay sellers will make marginal profit and cop a heap of abuse because people will know where the goods came from.
