Mellie's Random Game Discussion Thread

The actual fo3 ending should've pissed you off more than missing some sidequests :P

And yeah Me1 has a pretty awesome ending, me2 is quite awesome as well. Haven't bought 3 yet despite preordering 2 and playing it non stop once it unlocked..

Thinking about it now I'd say me1 ending is about equal to the ending of hl2/portal2 in awesomeness.. Although I can't think of anything that beats the ending of the witcher 1 on sheer badass level (Penumbra BP ending comes close). Planescape easily has the most emotional ending for me, Deus Ex 1 having the most philosophical. Lots of good endings out there but those ones stand out.

Yeah a great game. I don't remember any major bugs though, played through the enhanced edition off steam. I can't wait until the enhanced edition comes out for Witcher 2 for FREE! :D (grumbles about DLC)

Indeed, tw2ee should be rad. CDPjkt are just so awesome.

Where did you get up to Mille? I've been considering playing through again but those damn swamps, I'm not sure I have it in me.

I've almost completed Chapter 3 (the one after the swamps anyway).

I recommend sitting down with a good game guide and just hammering away at it.

It's installed on my Alienware laptop waiting for a work trip, I'll get to it eventually.

I just realized, The Citadel is the ONLY peaceful hub location in all of ME3. Argh this game has truly forgotten that it's suppose to be an RPG.

DarkMellie wrote:Yeah, what a fantastic ending hey?

Kinda like the first Matrix though, Mass Effect could have ended right there and been better off for it.

Nah. Mass Effect still had a greater overarching story to continue. Matrix on the other hand had pretty much finished the story it started. Simply put Matrix didn't need an ending to the war as the war was more a setting than the purpose of the story, unlike ME.

Colsey wrote:I keep hearing good things about ME2 :S

The writing quality for ME2 is off the scales but the actual scale of the story is tiny and adds almost nothing to the Reaper plot to the point you could argue it was just filler. Though it did expand the galaxy you were in.

The shooting mechanics were also improved a lot (still average by other standards) but that sacrificed a lot of the combat RPG mechanics.

Matty wrote:It didn't piss anyone else off you couldn't keep exploring the universe, finishing off side quests?

Yeah that annoyed me to hell, was so glad when ME2 let you keep playing.

I very much look forward to restarting ME1 for a real RPG experience in this supposedly RPG series. Also can't wait to play with the Mako again. Don't know why but I pretty much ignored all the side quests in the first game. Case in point. Who's Conrad Verner?

AND STOP MAKING ME FEEL SO BAD FOR STILL NOT FINISHING WITCHER. T_T Last time I played I resques this barkeep woman and she wishes to 'thank' me at a windmill or something. Does the game remind you when timed quests are nearing their time to be performed? I think the idea of the timed quest rubbed me the wrong way.

There were major shootouts on the Citadel in all 3 games. It was really no differant to any other hub location except it had the illusion of seeming peaceful. Even Omega had smaller firefights than the Citadel did

EDIT: lol, reread post, now I feel silly. Citadel still wasn't entirely peaceful though.

I think part of the idea behind it was that there were not many safe places left in the universe.

Been smashing Age of Empires Online a bit, picked up the All in Wonder pack on the Steam sale. Seems much better than the beta i tried last year.

Also have started playing Vampire Bloodlines again.

You know what I mean about the Citadel. :P

And seriously I never knew about Conrad. Learnt about him via the wiki. I also remember starting the Lunar rouge AI sidemission but stopped before I went in as I had had enough at that stage and wanted to finish the game.

Was kinda amusing the revelation that that rouge AI became EDI.

Is Anno1404 any good? My brother wanted to get it today (he ended up getting Age of Empires 3 Complete, an NFS Underground 1/2 and Most Wanted pack, CnC First Decade and CoH Anthology) but I was dead set against it because of its DRM but apparently its first patch removed the DRM and it's Anno 2070 that has had some of the epic DRM issues i've heard about.

Vampire Bloodlines, that was a game I wanted to play a million years ago but never got around to it. Don't really have any intention in trying to play it any time soon given my current backlog.

Gameguide!? I'd rather die :P Swamps were pretty annoying though.

Awesome, I finished it recently for the first time, want to play as Malkavian but might leave it for awhile :P That also had a decent ending although apparently some people really hated it.

Heya, add DarkMellie and we can hit up some AoE. Fantastic little game that.

And Bek, gameguides are awesome, I have no shame in stating I use them often.

lol, yeah probably but I'm not really a chooser your own adventure RPG story kinda guy. I didn't really have that much of an interest in the story the whole way along I was just into exploring new places and trying to find the most entertaining way to get to the end :P

(eg. dog collaring people for the slave trade place and then double crossing them to break out some kids for that kiddy cave society was awesome)

Anno 1404 is great! spent many hours in that game already. The DRM doesn't exist.. they patched it all out not that long ago IIRC

Agreed, it's a fantastic game... very light on combat which I really liked... getting colonies set up and trading is really relaxing, but the main campaign is also pretty damned cool.

The Venice expansion added co-op too which I've never tried. Let me know if ever you want to give it a go.

Well he REALLY wants me to get it so after dicksmiths tomorrow morning i'll get it for him. :) It's apparently the gold version so it should have Venice in it as well.
