Ridge Racer Unbounded

If you have played the Flatout series (same dev!) and Burnout and want a solid arcade racer that's been missing from PC for years. This is probably going to fill that void.

The advanced editor that ships with the game was also used to create all of the levels, in game.

Why should you care? One answer really.

That track editor looks like bunches of fun. I wonder how easy it is to actually use though?

Quick first impressions, looks good, but the only graphics settings you can change is resolution and AF (on a slider) is it (And I'm unable to find any files I can modify settings in directly). So I can't maintain 60fps at 1920x1200 (Native res) on my 5850/i7-930, which takes away some of the fun of playing a racing game.

Gameplay seems good, but I'm getting a bit of stuttering which makes it hard to line up good takedowns (or Frags as it calls them).

Guess I'll play some more to see how I feel after more racing.

Only 1.5gb? Normally i don't care how big a game is, but that seems suspiciously small by todays standards, makes me question the amount of content & quality packed in with the game.

I never got into Ridge Racer so i'm not sure what to expect, can anyone summarise what's in the game exactly? amount of cars, courses, customisations, game modes, etc. I'd like to know before buying, because it does look good.

Entirely different genre but Skyrim was a 5gb (8 with the new HD texture pack) download. I wouldn't let the filesize dictate content in games :)

Anyone else having problems with gamepads, I can change to a 360 pad but the setting never sticks.

I'm really not winning with this one  zlib error on map creation.

Ahh real shame Flatout 1 and 2 were awesome and played flawless.
what's bugbear doing?

Sure does look pretty. Is there a handbrake? None of my buttons seem to work so cornering is almost non-existent.

As to the game size, iirc Trackmania 2 was around the same and that was a bunch of fun!

Apparently you need to hold the drift button the whole duration of your drift, so i've heard.

EDIT: LMAO its updating now was too quick got in b4 day 1 patch we will see soon. And patch is the whole game size again. And it's slow as 160- 300kbs whole world must be re-downloading. Oh well back to bf3 for 2 hrs.

Detected and configured itself for my pad fine (Ps3 pad being emulated as a 360), there is a (very short) thread on the steam forums about that error, no info for a fix though.

As far as I can tell you have a normal brake, and a drift button, which acts as a handbrake.

Eugh, patch the size of the game, suggests it's getting the entire game again to add whatever changes were put in. That's a bit annoying, wonder if anyone who hasn't downloaded it would need to get it once? Or have to do what's now a 3GB download. Or if it was the wrong version made available, and they've now corrected that.

Slight annoyance in racing, when you're on a ramp and you drive up the side, if you're on a bumper cam view, it stays completely horizontal, even though your car is on a very sharp angle, makes it hard to judge jumps and stuff when the camera isn't actually showing what the car is doing (not an issue if you prefer playing with a chase camera I guess).

Pictures to demonstrate:

Seems to be a bit of a range of game modes, In the first district (of the 8 or so available) there is 7 races, which include straight up racing, a destroying cars/city one, a stunt/token collection one.

I just wish I could run it without the slight stuttering I'm getting, which even happens at lower resolutions for me. Hope this "patch" or whatever it is fixes it (Wishful thinking lol)

More info re drifting from Bugbear twitter; Press and hold during a corner, it changes how you corner, and they recommend doing that in every corner.
