B: EA shutdown the online services for these games. They have not stopped single player access, if you think multiplayer services should run for perpetuity that's another discussion entirely.

C: It does not take a very large leap of logic (and in this case, faith), to assume that EA would patch the game prior to shutting down online services for SC5, allowing single player access to continue.

Edit: Just saw akira675's post; yeah that's woeful business practice. No defending that.

That always sucks, because the problem with internet connections is that, sometimes, they just don’t feel like working.

No, it always sucks because game companies have no business monitoring how and when we choose to use products we have paid for in the privacy of our homes.

Another "won't buy" here, unfortunately. Would have bought on day 1 if not for this.

When the first article about the new SC went up I commented that the references to fabulous on-line b.s. were ominous. I knew this is where it was heading. What a shame.

Yes, you will have to register an Origin account in order to play, and yes, you must be online at all times while playing in order to start playing. EA has confirmed that you will not be kicked out if your connection is interrupted. Moving on.

Still have to install Origin, which is a sub par version of steam. I stand by my choice to not buy any EA game if it requires origin or constant online verification. Its bad enough as it is with steam sometimes. "steam servers are too busy to handle your request" when you want to play a game.

yeah, i'm not defending them (hate Origin etc),just clarifying for those that missed it, this SimCity doesn't require a constant net connection to run.

This is why I endorse piracy, and why I won't be buying EA products.

Congrat's EA for killing the customers that made you!

Off-topic, but that would indeed be a good discussion actually. One thing I like about Urban Terror is not only has it got a reasonably consistent user base still, but it harks back to the glory days of PC gaming where you are able to download and run a dedicated server yourself, rather than relying on servers run and controlled by the publishers or licensed third-party hosts. In effect, if there's still an interest in playing a MP game which no longer has support, you still CAN because you have the files to do so. Valve at least still provide you with such tools, but I'd never expect EA, Activision or Blizzard to do so.

i think some people miss the days of 1995 and shareware. i know i do. but still, can hardly endorse piracy as a means of not accepting invasive drm. who am i kidding, torrent away!

1: That was not ad hominem, notice I am upset at him because he missed the point, I did not attack his augment because it came from him.

2: They did not shut done single player support on the games because they can not, a game on the other hand that needs servers to run could have its SP shut down.

3: Just because you think something will happen does not mean it will

NOOOOOOO000000O000000000O0O0O0O0O0O0O0O0O0O

Most likely won't be buying now....... UNLESS the online to start playing has something similar to anno 2070....(Minus the stupid maintence cant play a single player game...)

In the case that they do do that... i won't be buying it if its over 40$...

Now i'm starting to double think SC5.. I mean, the EA dev team (Not Maxis) created the **** SimCity Societies.. MAXIS, DON'T YOU **** THIS UP. (They are missing Will Wright... Hopes are not high...)

Yep pretty much this. Same reason I still haven't bought either Mass Effect 3 or Battlefield 3. I refuse to touch Origin with a barge pole, or at least it will have to be a really awesome game to convince me to install yet another content distribution program, Origin or otherwise. I refuse to clog my PC with ten tonne of these stupid programs.

The only reason I have Origin installed is for BF3. Nothing else is going anywhere near it as I hate EA's method of pushing people into using it (mainly by not selling on Steam).

The great majority of my games are on steam anyway, im used to requiring the internet connection. I don't see why they are bothering at all though, it will be cracked just as fast as every other game.

Just an inconvenience for the legitimate customers.

I think he is more talking about the social aspects the game is bringing up.

Always online won't stop me purchasing this game.
