Looks like this one will rely a heap more on efficient placement and planning than the previous ones did, especially with roads.
That is why we have mods…

Yeah but by the time the good bug-free ones come out I'm generally over the game already.

Well... not so much over the game, but I have plenty of new games to play which steal my interest.

I have been left flabbergasted at the sheer work and dedication the modders of SC4 have put in and the YEARS the spend just developing one mod.

My, oh my…
Care to recommend some mods?

Sweet! Thanks!

Looks good!

But I'm still bitter that I got so badly burnt with Spore, I hope that this is not a repeat of that debacle.

Before Spore was released, they also showed all these intricate, intelligent videos based on natural selection, world interactions, survival of the fittest/smartest etc, the scientist in me was excited...

But in the end they decided to dumb it down and release a kids game that was nothing more than a creature editor.

I just hope they don't do the same with Simcity.

Looking forward to it. If they want a kids game, they should put the option in there to make it easy, but leave this amazing engine running in the background for us nutters :D

The difficulty in previous SimCity games was never really in the sandbox mode to begin with though. It was in the scenarios. The sandbox mode was supposed to be playable by almost anybody, providing a relaxing experience and giving you simple control over your city. They used to stick us on SimCity in grade 4 in primary school for some sort of test/education... buggered if I know what that was all about though.

That said though, it would be good if they added some extra difficulty options to sandbox mode (apart from disasters), but I wouldn't really be that annoyed or disappointed if they didn't. No matter what difficulty you're on I'd imagine it would still get way too easy at some point, as with all games like this.

I think in this case they're talking the visuals rather than gameplay mechanics, ie lots of placeholder objects that will be updated before final release. I could be wrong of course. (could also mean that the clip wasn't meant to demonstrate gameplay, just certain mechanics of the Glassbox Engine)

I agree. I was like, beautiful graphics. Just hope we don't get the kind of choppy gameplay. So I am happy and I'm waiting to see actual gameplay. Just imagine rush hour in this game, (SC4 Expansion) it'll be great! Now to mention destroying the cities as well!

EDIT:I meant I agree with last sentence you said, and my ONLY complaint about gameplay really was how the cars moved really jagged and not smoove, but this is a game 1 year from now! No final thoughts on the game yet.

So I brought sc4 the other day after seeing this.. only having ever played sc on 386....
Click, drag.. make zone.. click, drag same type of zone.. roads dont line up..
Delete, Move over 2 spaces so roads should line up, click, drag.. 3rd road now doesnt line up.. 1st 2 do.. 3rd is a smaller gap for no reason at all...
Delete zone.
Tried different alignments, zone types etc... gaaaah!
Manually build road. Manually add every building site...
SC1 WAS BETTER!!!
Need an auto fill between roads option!!

Hope its better in sc5.. cause atm.. Im unhappy with the wasted money and have no intention of playing sc4 ever again.
