Unread postby News Portal » 20 Mar 12, 10:45 am

Ubisoft Shanghai's "survival horror" experience launched last week. Six years and two engines in the making, [app=4154]I Am Alive[/app] promises a world of jumping, climbing, running and shooting in a post-apocalyptic city. What it delivers is... another thing entirely.

sounds.....interesting :) sounds like you've given a good effort to the game though to test it out.

I'm with you on the ugliness. Good gravy, they must've broken out the interns or something.

Great review mate.

I've seen a few reviewers question the "pointing gun" mechanism. Honestly, if someone was pointing a gun at you and you were desperate enough, you'd probably charge at them if they had the chance. The key is that your enemy has *no idea* if the gun is loaded or not, so when it's up, regardless if you put it down for any given amount of time, they will assume it could kill them.

Frankly, its one of the game mechanics I actually liked :)

I get the feeling the ugliness comes from them cutting down on game size, it comes in at a piddly 1.5gb or something, but really could be over 4gb if they had done proper models and textures for a proper disk based release.

At first I thought it was going to be a great game, your first encounter with armed enemies while holding an empty gun is great, but it becomes apparent soon after that THIS is the game. There is really not a whole lot to it other than what is mentioned in the review. All the enemy encounters seem to be the same, always 1 or 2 with a gun and the others with machetes. There is also very little scavenging of any kind, you cant search any containers (boxes, dumpsters etc.) most stuff you find is just sitting there, be it a bottle of water or a med kit.

Huge let down, very disappointed with it, even at $16.50.

WTB a PC version of this (like they originally intended). Leave it so modders can add in high res textures.

Was kind of keen on this, glad I read a review...not sure I want it now. I don't have the same patience with games I used to.
