Looking for earphone recommendations

Unread postby exe3 » 5 Mar 12, 5:00 pm

Basically I need some earphones for my PSP as I can't stand the terrible inbuilt speaker anymore (I use my computer speakers while at home it's that bad) and want to limit the sound while using it at TAFE.

So anyone have any recommendations? I'm not looking for anything too amazing or too expensive. It just needs to have good sound that isn't a distorted mess. JB HiFi has a bunch of TDK ones (MC300, IE500, EB650, EB900), are they any good?

You should be able to get something pretty reasonable from Sennheiser :)

Should do the job well enough to use for the odd bit of music from the PSP or podcast :icon14:

No music, purely for gaming. Thanks for the links, I was looking at the jb hifi online site. :)

Best earphones I have used have been the Apple In-Ear headphones. Can be gotten under $50 occasionally on sale.
Have heard good things about the Sennheiser MM80's I think they were. They'd be good for gaming since they emphasise bass which will be good for splosions.

Sony have Vita earphones, might be worth giving those a try.

And they're only $25. :o Definitely will be giving those a look. If only they let you try them out in the store (they have a bunch of headphones on display, do they do earphones as well?). Hopefully they're compatible with the PSP as well, can't find any info on that atm.

Very much doubt it. It would be a hygiene nightmare. The Yamaha ep20 and ep30 earphones are also good for sub $50.

Agreed, I have these ones

http://headphones.com.au/psingle?productID=612 they are designed for teh exercise (sweat and light rain resistant) The winged bits are soft rubber and can be removed (I wasn't a fan) and the cable can be shortened by unplugging the remote so from jack to ear buds it's a little over 1/2 a meter. Oh and of course good sound, and a 2 year warranty. :)

Bought the Vita headset. Kinda odd as with a DS it sounds terrible. Massive snow noise. But the PSP it sounds fine (minus the fact it doesn't compare to my speakers :P ).

Though another thing, the inside of my right ear actually hurts now. I'm going to assume it's the headset that's caused the pain, is this normal? Or exclusive to these headsets? Should it get better after a while? Or do you think I should return them and just ignore headsets.

I've never had pain from an in-ear monitor/headphone. Maybe you pushed it too far in, or it's too big and pushing on your ear canal? Hard to say, but it's sure not normal.

Brought a headset for myself and gf a few months back. Shop is located in Perth tho (Leederville). Free delivery Aus wide

Fantastic service, great price for a retailer and they don't sell any rubbish. Have a look in the recommended products section :)

For future reference, http://www.iheadphones.co.uk/

Free delivery to AU and options for *real* quality. Sorry if I sound snobbish, but if you think Apple and Sennheiser sound good, you haven't shopped around enough. As an aside, I can not recommend the Beyerdynamic range enough. They make sweet sweet love to your ears.
