Could this mean that future valve titles may have a console focus? I guess it's too early to say anything since we don't know jack about the console, but still... not sure if want.

It HAS to be great for indie development though, would make it REALLY easy to get published.

Assuming anyone buys a "Valve" console (which I'm dubious about). Otherwise, you have exactly the same market you already have - PC enthusiasts.

End of the day, all this will really achieve is set a benchmark for PC gaming compatibility. It won't speed up hardware adoption, or encourage developers to target cutting edge hardware... because the Valve spec will always lag behind anyway (just like existing consoles, due to hardware lead time.)

Steam is hardly an open platform though. :\
I highly doubt you'll be able to open up a so called Valve Box in order to change the OS it's running, or upgrade hardware. At that point it just becomes a PC under your TV that doesn't run Windows.
I can't just release a game on Steam at a whim, it has to go through approval on Steam the same as it would have with Apple.

Not quite sure what he's trying to say here.

A Valve box, I dunno. If it was just another console, it'd be in direct competition to the current big 3, and would have a hard time getting normal non-savvy consumers onboard without something to differentiate the platform apart from 'we let more games on our service than Xbox Live'.

All speculation of course, I'll be watching this closely.
