Man Sells Video Game for $US30,000

Unread postby News Portal » 29 Feb 12, 10:12 am

What. The. Hell. Remember the Neo Geo? Pricey little unit back in the day. Its games? Also pricey, and if this crazy turn of top-dollar events is anything to go by, they’ve only appreciated in value – by a lot. In this case, we’re talking Aero Fighters 3. Until right this minute, it was thought that the game had never been released in the States. At least, not officially. There are three copies in existence – and one of them was just sold for a whopping $US30,000 or thereabouts.

It's interesting to see how much folk will pay for some of these really rare games. Not a criticism, I can understand a collector who wants to get their hands on these rare items, particularly those in extremely limited numbers, would be willing to part with nearly any amount of cash. Just...interesting. It's a case of how far would you go for your hobby? In a case like this, would you actually play the game? Or would that be like spending $30,000 on an ultra rare postage stamp and then using it to mail a letter?

Not surprised really. I looked into getting myself a Neo-Geo setup a few years back and decided against it based on the fact that I could buy a car instead.

Yeah, I could get a print of the Mona Lisa too. Doesn't have the same meaning.

Is Vib Ribbon the game that made levels based on music playing?
