Avast has no rating for GON

Avast has no rating for GON

Unread postby Treloar » 26 Feb 12, 9:08 am

I think we need to get to and do some voting that makes GON show 3 Green Bars :!:

Image

Note: On the top right, the 3 clear bars with the popup stating "This site has no rating (not enough votes)" between the spanner and session buddy icons. Apparently when I updated Avast this morning it install this little feature to the browser so I can see the popularity and/or trustworthiness of a site.

Popularity? Or trustworthiness?
Not sure an anti-virus program would bother with a popularity contest?

yeah mine has had one bar for quite a while now...

it is a popularity contest really, but the point of 'voting' is to say this site can be trusted...

It depends on who has avast installed so it's likely only relevant to a few.

Hey, you should do a poll see who has avast installed. ;)

Then get all those who have it to vote till there blue in the face. :jumpy:

Isn't that a bit of a silly way to see if a site is trustworthy?

If I was inclined that way, I'd probably target highly rated trusted websites to make them malicious, as people might be inclined to disregard any warnings they get as it's a trusted website.

If I thought like a jerk I'd think that anyway >.>

I have Avast but pretty sure I've disabled WebRep. Dislike those things.

Is GON trustworthy.... Yep the last time I had a look it was.
I rather trust my Antivirus then some poll telling me if a site is or not safe but then again you can not always trust your Antivirus;
So I am bringing it back to me Yes its safe..... :D

That was my thought as well, no reason you couldn't target 'trusted' sites for infection when there's no actual way for avast to monitor the site outside of voting. Not to mention that scammers could upvote their own sites.

Is not Web of Trust more accurate and appropriate than Avast's browser toolbars?

Maybe I am just a hater of toolbars…
