Far Cry 2

Unread postby Kendrite » 4 Sep 11, 7:55 am

I just got this in the Steam sale and have put about 1 1/2 into it. It was starting to get good and I was thinking to myself, why did this get such a poor reputation, it's pretty good fun!

Then after a few missions I realised the problem... re-spawns. More the timing of re-spawns.

WTF were Ubisoft thinking setting the re-spawn times so low? You clear a checkpoint, realise you think you've left the stove on so turn around to go back and the checkpoint has completely repopulated! It's BS.

And the games so old I can't imaging Ubisoft patching it now (why they didn't already I don't know).

I've looked for mods but there doesn't seem to be anything to help (is there?).

I honestly believe if they fixed this one thing the games reception would have gone from "meh" to "hey, this is really pretty good."

Anyway, I just had to vent that.

But yeah, we all feel your pain with that. Fortunately, Far Cry 3 is looking much better.

Bit of a bump here:

Am I the only one who really loved FC2 multiplayer?

Singleplayer was a real waste of potential, with **** world population and non-factions, and crappy "story". But the map maker was a real thrill to use.

I only got it a year or two after launch in a Steam sale, and when my mate and I played online we played on a really stupid weird "underground" map and one set in a really really tiny cramped church cemetary, where you could run out of bounds through some alleys to get into some buildings. In other words, almost completely non-thematic maps, similar to silly CSS maps.

I think I recall I did get to play a couple of proper matchmaking maps, but just deathmatch.

Did anyone play multiplayer at launch or with mates and have a good African-merc-war time, or was what I experienced pretty common?

Here's to wasted potential, and a multiplayer scene I never properly got to enjoy.

Yeah, it started off pretty good. But towards the end it got really repetitive. Oh your mission is the other side of the map. You have to kill your way past x checkpoints for the actual fun scripted mission bit, then another hour of boredom to get the next mission.

Just another lesson in realism != fun

I never knew that game mode even existed, let alone played it.

I cried tears of blood over the wasted potential of the game. The great game engine and heavenly level maker, all ruined by consolitus.

It could have been both a great game and made a really great statement about certain parts of Africa, but it failed on both counts.

Singleplayer was good for a mindless bash, nothing more.

Didn't know it had multilayer either...

Still haven't touched it since original post but not gotten around to uninstalling it. :(

How could you not know it has multiplayer? >_>

Try the map editor, it's worth it just to cry over such wasted game engine potential.

I got far cry 2 when I had a **** internet connection so I never played multiplayer (as much as I wanted to). I did try out the map editor and it was brilliant! It takes so little time to make something beautiful in that.

Normally if I pick up a new game I jump straight into the single player so at least know which way is up before going up against real people.

I suppose that because I only played a few hours single player I never got around to the multilayer and have/had forgotten about it!

If you like that editor, you'll love Sandbox ;) It's that but 1000x more powerful.
