Alan Wake a Sales Success on PC - Recoups All Costs in 48 Hours

Unread postby News Portal » 21 Feb 12, 1:43 pm

After four years of announcements and tantilising preview footage, gamers were more than just a little cut when Remedy Entertainment decided to drop [app=570]Alan Wake[/app]'s PC release and make the game an Xbox 360 exclusive. Fortunately Remedy didn't scrap the PC version for good and it finally saw release last week. Proving that the platform is alive and kicking, Remedy are pleased to report that they were able to recoup all costs associated with the PC release in just 48 hours.

I might look into during a sale but unless it is a proper "PC version" and not just a port (which I know in this case was Microsoft's fault and not Remedy's) I don't see the point in caring about a game everyone else has cared about 2 years ago. Microsoft didn't learn with Halo and Halo 2, or Fable - regardless of sales none of these titles were ever "popular" on the PC because they waited too long to give us shoddy ports - and I'm sure Microsoft thinks there is no market here - welp, they've been proven wrong but I still don't think that will get Microsoft making some good PC games (or giving us Halo which I really want v_v).

Just finished the game. It was amazing, not a shoddy port. No console icons, no 'press A to play', guns can be used via scroll and 1 2 3 4 and not some weird menu and so on. Graphics are amazing. DX11 level stuff in DX9. I was able to max it on my 560 ti @ 80-100% usage @ 30-60fps.
Definitely recommend.

Hmm LA Noire much? I think it is really interesting to see Remedy turn around and say they have recouped their costs this quickly, yet you have Rockstar who still carry on that there is no financial incentive to port RDR over.... Yes RDR would probably cost a fair bit more to port over, but if they price it at a reasonable rate, they would also make thier cash back....

How could they say that? GTA titles are STILL being played due to modding communities AND there is a huge demand for RDR to come to PC AND Steam is proven to make huge sales numbers if they are at fair prices. More over I got EFLC for $50 and wopuld have easily paid $100 and would easily pay $100 for RDR. o_O Rockstar are nuts, or simply lying because they cbf.

Proving that the platform is alive and kicking

Only you morons at Remedy/Microsoft and your moron executive pals at other devs/publishers ever doubted this.

The lesson is: release for PC on day one and don't treat PC gamers like second class citizens and you will make money out of it. If you make high quality games and price them reasonably, people will buy them.

To be fair Remedy wanted a PC version from the start and Microsoft told them no and since then had been bugging Microsoft to let them (according to various news stories anyway).

I'm a little concerned that no one has pointed out yet that the first paragraph and the quote in this "article" are identical...

Impossible!

The Pc Platform is full of eyepatch wearing, peg legged, plank walking pirates!

Or did they forget they are supposed to pretend that there is no money to be made on the platform cause of all the cracks?
