Hey Rob, welcome to GoN :)

Really unsure about MS Flight.. I'm a hardcore sim-pilot and the feeling I get from this title is a whole bunch of lovely, trademarked aircraft that will be really easy to fly.

Then again, I also loved Take On Helicopters and that wasn't too demanding either.

It has gamerscore, I'll be definitely be getting it (and it's free I believe)... unsure about how much I'll plunge into DLC though.

What's your take on it?

I really love FSX and have spent quite alot of time getting addons for it and just love the actualy challenge to flying....

Some people on other forums have written it off already, but I am willing to give it a go. And besides... the basic version is FREE (so what is there really there to lose?) anyway so can't really go wrong.
So I am basically just counting down to the end of this month to be able to download it and have a go...

End of the month? Sweet!

Although, Hind DLC comes out for Take on Helicopters then too!

yeah MSF isn't for the hardcore FSX/FS9 pilots - I think there's still plenty of life left in FSX + PMDG addons (c'mon baby....bring out the Dash and 777).

downloaded it from gon mirror
just isntalled it and fired it up.

wow

sucks pretty hard.

doesnt seem to have trackIR support

looks and feels just like test drive unlimited 2

tho doesnt look as nice

only the 1 location

the video options are only extremely basic

the 1 flying car/ boat you start with is a joke

naah i dunno it might get better but i seriously doubt it, they've taken away what made FS series good (mods) and tried to turn it into profitable mods (dlc made by MS) only

the fact that trackIR isnt supported killed the game in the first 14 seconds i loaded it up. any game wanting to be a sim neeeds to have trackIR support if it doesnt, then its just a waste of time

i go back to rise of flight, muuuch mmuuuuuch better game and you can even shoot things!!!

the end

My experience:

- Download files from GoN

- Install. Last step: "Enter product activation key."

- WTF? Google, discover it needs to be "purchased" on GFW Marketplace.

- Start GFWM; "There is a problem you need to resolve before you can log in."

- Log into Xbox.com website. Agree to new terms and conditions.

- Log into GFWM. "Marketplace" has now been replaced with link to Xbox.com store website. Click on that - need to log into Xbox.com again.

- "Purchase" MS Flight for free.

- Spend 5 minutes trying to figure out where to find product key. Need to restart GFWM so it shows up in "Downloads" tab, click on game, "View game keys". Key is not listed under "Product Key" or "Game Activation Key", but "LIVE Access Code".

- Enter "LIVE Access Code" in "Product Key" box.

- Install completes.

- After 5 minutes of black screen, click mouse. Game starts, asks me to log into GFWL. Log in. "An update is required"

- Update GFWL, have to restart game.

- Restart, log into GFWL again.

- Click play. "Flight application has stopped working."

Image

- Uninstall.

As someone mentioned in another thread, from those files there's a setup and a game exe. One or tge other gets around the key issue.

yup i thought i'd give it another chance this morning too

loading it up, asks for product key and it lets me start, start flying (oh its already inthe air no need to press any buttons to start the engine or flaps or throttle or anything) then it crashes oh well

load up
rise of flight, continue my carreer mode in that and have awesome fun trying to shoot down german planes and balloons in terribad weather

Image

manage to shoot down a couple planes before heading back to base, and as i land i hit a bump and ended up nose first into the ground lolol i was ok but the plane needed some repairs :)

I'm surprised that it ran fine and smoothly for me on my old computer that didn't even make the minimum specs, even on highish graphics. As for buying better planes and areas it's a no for me (for now). It isn't as realistic and they made it easier to fly which made it fun to just jump in a play. I was impressed.

I'm still trying to get Flightgear up and going with all the scenery and aircraft ready to go. That's not as polished as this Microsoft one but Flightgear is free and open source. I want to compare the two. For me Flightgear took some time to get used to (realism of flying/mucking around with settings) but Flight I could jump into and fly with ease.

I bought the Adventure pack today and am really starting to like it. While it is not as indepth as FSX, it certainly does have a lot of potential.
And the graphics are great!

i had everything cranked and looked like ****

unlike the above rise of flight^^ which is many times better looking
