PALGN's Entire Editorial Team to Quit

Over the years, I’ve hung out with PALGN executive editor Jeremy Jastrzab a number of times. We even wound up in Paris one year for an Ubisoft do, totally enamoured with the legginess of a local burlesque show. He’s a good guy and loves his gaming, which is why it’s such a shame to see him and his editorial team leaving PALGN for good. So what happened? In quite a straightforward statement, Jez outlined the reasons why PALGN’s staff will no longer be a part of the site as of February 10th:

Raises an interesting point that the leak itself with all its good intentions has damaged the reputation of the site to even people who have never heard of it before.

I guess the moral of the story is "don't be an arsehole website owner".

Never heard of that site before. Understandable from that thread copy though. (It looks like a thread and not emails- no headers, and they keep saying that it takes up to ten minutes for their posts to go through properly).

I don't see anything bad about anyone other then that roland idiot, clearly the staff and volunteers have being been screwed around for so long they are fed up trying to hold it all together with no support.

I have to admit I'm pretty shocked so many people haven't heard of them.

They were one of the first major Australian video game websites, originally an offshoot of IGN, back in the early part of the 00's. On the surface they actually had a pretty good thing going, and they were the ones who began the whole "games bargain" watch. At one point, they had probably the most accurate AU release schedule on the net.

A few things shocked me though - that the whole team worked for nothing, and the absolutely massive neglect from Roland. At one point, they had amazing traffic numbers, but a complete lack of investment in servers, almost zero changes in layout, and complete abuse of volunteer staff seemed to rip apart the fabric.

It's a shame really, very few sites have that sort of bond anymore, but I think its completely abhorrent that Roland didn't pay his staff.

By the sounds of things it wasn't just that Roland wasn't paying staff, they were all not being paid other than receiving free games and tickets to things and whatnot, for the entirety of their time on "staff" at PALGN. And that was the case from their senior guys down.
That might be okay for smaller sites but considering PALGN was apparently sponsoring things like Supernova? You'd think the crew would see at least some of that.

I knew of PALGN before all this but I don't think I'd ever been there to see what they had to say about anything so the impact on me is minimal. I do feel a great deal of sympathy for the staff who've put so much time into the site over the years and have now been left with little choice but to walk out. Having your hard work go unappreciated like that is never a good feeling.
