I looked into upgrading my ssd firmware (falcon II) but it seems you have to use it as a slave in another pc to do so. cbf..

Nice, love a firmware upgrade that does something decent!

Oh really? Meh. No firmware for me then.

Though I bench marked it and it's not performing anywhere near as fast as what it claims to. ie 275mb read speed while only getting 165 ish

Amidoinitrite?

This is pre-firmware... we'll see how she goes afterwards.

edit: restart + tweaks = moar speeds.

I should update the firmware on my Agility 3... Haven't touched them since I built this rig. I've been putting it off since apparently it's fiddly to do when it's your boot drive. :x

Ahci mode in bios?

Read a thread from google saying my particular drive doesnt benefit from the later firmware so I can't be bothered. Get about 220 read max, 200 average, 0.091ms access time.

from memory, AHCI really only drastically effects the 4K-64Thrd score (especially the write). claimed performance and actual performance is always going to be totally different. higher numbers means more sales.

I got a (small) increase switching to ahci, my drive is a bit older though. Would like to see an article with repeated tests between ide and ahci though actually, anyone know of any? Might look into it later.

Yeah. Now I'm curious if this is normal for my drive or not.

To google!

EDIT: So it turns out using the OCZ recommended benchmarking tool (ATTO) I get about 250ish read and 230ish write. Which benchmark is correct, I've no idea.
