Blood Donor

Unread postby Disco LT » 18 Jan 12, 12:06 pm

I've just realized it's been a while since I donated, so while I've got the day off I thought I'd call up and make an appointment at my local centre.

Curious as to whether there are any other donors here? I've never done Plasma though, just blood but I still think it's a good cause. Maybe if you've been thinking about it now is the time to give it a go :D

Got my track marks and proud :)

Blood flows too slowly to do plasma.

I do my qtrly bloods, have done for the last 2 years. Last time I went the guy said I pushed rate of transfer limits because my bloody was basically pissing out :P

Plus that milkshake + biscuit at the end is totally worth it!

Yeah, I donate when the bus comes to my town every 3 months or so. I'm O+ which is the common type but as the blood people said "It's the common stuff that we run out of first".

Ever since I discovered I was O-Negative I've been a regular, last two years and counting, haven't missed a beat! Don't know what the fuss is about really, the whole thing takes like an hour and they give you free food afterwards in exchange for your blood.

If you don't donate, do it! On an effort:lives saved ratio it is basically the most efficient piece of good you can do in the world.

EDIT: There are a number of medical reasons which prohibit donation, but you should at least call up the Red Cross and find out if you can :)

Something worth nothing too is that even if you rarely get time away from work and don't fancy donating in your off time your boss would have to be a right prick to say you can't knock off an hour early to go to your local donation point.

If you're a fatty like me the free food after is a nice bonus.

Just a suggestion, maybe the GON community could organise some kind of blood drive day with coordinated donation efforts in major cities/population centres. Maybe something along the lines of knock off early, donate blood, eat a sausage sandwich and play some games?

*shrug* works for me :P

I know my workplace loves doing drives for that type of ****, we usually get the blood-bus to come to our work to pick us up/drop us off.

My family and I have regularly donated, it all started due to blood-donations saving my life when I was 9.

You can set up a group with the Red Cross Blood Service.. when you donate you simply state your group and it goes to your team total.

Maybe we should set up a Games On Net group, it would be pretty cool to see how much we could get together in 12 months.

I'm O+, and thats ok since if I ever need it hopefully there will be some for me.

I used to donate blood and then over the years I stopped due to getting piercings/tattoos. I have been contemplating starting again though.

Alright, I'm going to take this on. Will look into the group then we can all drum up business in the forums. If it all goes to plan I'm sure Cas will get us some frontpage space.

http://www.donateblood.com.au/become-a- ... give-blood

^^ for those that haven't ever given blood and don't know if they can.

There's plenty of information there so you know what you're getting yourself in to as well.

Also, this it what your blood donation will help with

I'm sure all of us have at least one person in our lives who has benefited from blood donations.
