General BF3 Discussion

Unread postby Yurtles » 27 Oct 11, 4:37 pm

Made a thread that we can use just to talk about BF3 in general;

I unlocked the Javelin as well as the G36C today. Both were big disappointments. You only carry 2 missiles for the Javelin and you need 2 shots to disable a tank. Combine that with the fact you need to sit within sight of the enemy tanks for the same period it takes a Stinger to lock on and it's a losing proposition. The fact that it locks on isn't a promised hit either, if the tank pops smoke you lose your lock and need to start over. On the plus side you can hit things further away with it compared to the RPG/SMAW. If it all works out.
The G36C might be ok in some cases, but considering the generally close quarters fights take place in, the extra stopping power of the SCAR-H is sorely missed in almost all circumstances.

My conclusion: If you've got the SCAR-H and a SMAW/RPG you're already as effective as the engineer is going to get. Don't be in any rush to level it further.

I've struggled to get even a single hour of play.

- BATTLELOG: Don't mind this new idea as singleplayer and multiplayer games come up nice and quick. Quick stats and unlock pages are handy as well. However, Friend intergration still sucks and what annoys me the most is the advertising for the store on the main page, they claimed it would just be like an in-game menu, they need to take this down now.

- SINGLEPLAYER: So far so good, playing it in 15 min blocks on hard, its been smashed in the reviews but i am enjoying it and lets be honest its just a bonus.

- MULTIPLAYER: Well. I have had the most intense and fun gameplay of any multiplayer in BF3, rushing the MCOMS with a teamworking squad, vaulting over objects whislt exploded off tiles are hitting me in the face. However all this was in Beta. Full game release has been all over the place, having to switch servers left right and centre just to escape the lag (node beginner server) and map lag (Tehran Highway - on any server).

I will say though, the sweet spot for me was when i joined Nodes HC server whilst it only had around 20 people in it ; incredible, i could actually hear my ScarH banging off rounds instead of only seeing muzzle flash under a wave of mixed sound from 63 other players, squads worked better due to easier situational awareness. Also HC damage is much better, once again though they have split the community by being slack with the damage balance. I guess we will all have to wait untill things are smoothed over.

- MAPS: wow, really disappointed. As others have said they nearly all feel like they were made for Rush. I like Caspian, Kharg Island (Little Birds are awesome by the way - but we all knew that from PR eh? :) Sienne and the canal one but the rest feel only great for rush,

Weapon sounds are perfect in nearly every weapon BTW (a big thing for my enjoyment)

Just rushed this out while Battlelog is down and before i go and cook some dinner, i'll come back and add the things i have forgotten?

How many missiles can you carry with the ordnance specialization? (one that gives you extra explosives)

I dunno, don't really like the SCAR-H, haven't really used it much i suppose but it doesn't have enough bullets for my liking.

ahh yes...if more people liked HC rather than vanilla...we'd have more HC servers! :)

4 missiles with the specialisation. And the G36 might be for you then, it's got good accuracy, low recoil and 30 rounds, just lacking in the damage for my liking - you come off second best more often than not when it comes to those desperate situations whereas the SCAR will mostly win them.

Edit: Also, I now have 5 MVP-2 ribbons, and no MVPs. I am such a bridesmaid.

Just played Node server Caspian border 64p it lagged so much it was like playing the game twice.

48 players seems to be the max it handles all 64 player servers have had lag at some stage but nothing like what I just saw.

Special tip, you can drive a tank off anything and over just about everything and get away with it. Very suprising.

yeah the maps are not great most of them turn into corridors of killing.
Caspian Boarder seems to be the best map by far but I will give it some more time but not really impressed with the maps I have seen.
But that is for a Conquest point of view but this is meant to be BF3.

Jets and Helicopters aren't even close to being as lucrative as they were in BF2, mainly because they suck.

I found jets are only good for swatting other jets in hardcore. People go on and on about how bad 3D spotting is, but without it, I can rarely see a damn thing on the ground when I'm in a jet.

Also, is it just me or do jets CONSTANTLY jerk around when you're flying them? It's probably why I have a hard time seeing anything on the ground without 3D spotting turned on.

Yea its the lag, makes aiming at stuff hopeless.

Anyone know if there is a thermal imaging unlock on the jets? would make targeting ground units so much easier.

Edit: answered my own question, seems there isn't.
