New crates

Unread postby Drakand » 20 Oct 11, 1:29 pm

I saw there are some new crates released that have among them strange ullapool caber and strange gunslinger.... I think this may make me cry a bit. The craze of charging exploding melee demo's had stopped but will now start again.
While I like the gunslinger and find it can be used very effectively, having every person going gunslinger to build up their stats is going to be frustrating :( Means engy setups will be easier to take out but still...frustrating! :(

While Valve have had troubles with fixing their latest feature (and I call the crashing a feature as any thing that can't be changed after three patches is not a bug... it's a feature!), they do have an absolute talent for making money.

Originally we got crates that gave us a tiny tiny chance of getting an unusual hat or 1 of 2 regular hats and a (more likely) large percentage of getting some crappy weapon within those crates. Most people would get another equaliser or homewrecker for the fifth time which didn't make the idea of opening crates an appealing idea.

Then they come up with the idea that they would add stats to those weapons and called them strange and now people are happy to pay for the option to open a crate in the chance of getting a strange weapon. What's really funny is that I've seen people get a hat out of a crate yet be cranky because they wanted a strange sniper rifle or whatever!

As I said before, they have a talent for making us want something that originally we would all whinge about.

They use the same theory seen in farm-ville and a lot of MMO's and is also similar as to why certain people can be addicted to gambling (among other things). And **** me it works well.

I do agree fellas but I must say I have been suckered in for the strange weapons, I do like them and the stats they keep.

The guy who was angry he got a hat over a strange sniper rifle...thats not a healthy thing IMO.

I wouldn't say that I'm as bad as the people who are continually trading to get the newest stuff and wanting to have it all straight away as soon as it comes out but yeah, I don't mind having this stuff and opening the occasional crate doesn't bother me.

I'm looking forward to strange huntsman I must say. I nearly only use it on Degroot Keep but when I do, mighty effective :D many headshots ensue.

I haven't spent any money on anything either... but if I was earning Aussie dollars, I probably would. :P Dang that high five taunt!

BTW, can Series #30 crates be opened without a key? Or is a "special key" different from a normal key? The description on wiki confuses me. Nevermind, I never read stuff properly.

High five taunt is great! :D Just found out last night you can hold the key to stay in the ready position longer, too.
Have they said it's a random drop? You might get lucky or someone might get a double, etc :)

I've bought a few keys, but since I never paid for the game ages ago (free with Gmod) I feel that I should.

I've played on-and-off since release, and have between 400 and 500 hours played (a lot less than many). Seeing as I bought the Orange Box primarily for HL2 and Portal, I consider(ed) TF2 a 'free' bonus. As such, I don't have any issue spending $5-$10 in the store every couple of months.

However the whole key/crate/unusual thing ties into the worst aspects of gambling and addictive/compulsive spending--a bit evil. On the other hand ... WHAT'S IN THE BOX??!!!
