Question on Mass Effect

So tell me, GoN, does the prologue book for the Mass Effect series spoil the first game? Once I am finished War and Peace I was planning to read the Revelation before playing the game and then continuing on in the natural progression. My question to you folks is, is it like Bioshock's prequel in that, even though it describes a story of its own leading up to the events of the game, reading it will subsequently ruin the story of the game?

I'm pretty sure that novel does spoil a few things, maybe just minor things, but it's probably better to play it safe and play the game first. I wouldn't say reading it will ruin the story of the game, but it may spoil a few plot developments.

I played Mass Effect then ME2 then the DLC, the story is amazing! wasn't happy with the DLC; was expecting better quality to match the rest of the story.
