I'm here for advice! For the past couple of years I've been playing mostly acoustic stuff and writing my own music. Before that I played electric a bit, but still, not heaps. Anyway I haven't done a lot of fast/technical picking as of late so basically I'm crippled on that hand but pretty decent with my other one.

Unfortunately (in that regard. otherwise awesome) I just formed a new hardcore band with some mates, so I'm pulling out the old Ibanez and playing rhythm guitar and singing. So I really need to work on my picking speed and technique. I've downloaded a big old GP tab torrent file and have started trying some stuff, but I'm not quite sure where to start. It's either too simple or just too much of a jump. Anyone got any ideas of bands/songs tabs or anything online they think will help me pick it up quickly? Not too fussed about genres as I just wanna get better really..

need some advice dudes, i been playing for about 2-3 months now , still suck uberly but starting to get some tunes out (didnt realise how easy grinspoon songs are lol ) , but i cheaped out when i bought my guitar , just got a elcheapo legacy guitar for like 180$ with a really bad 10watt amp...

so now im starting to learn a few things i want to get a decent guitar , don't really wanna spend over $6-700 , what would you guys recommend? been looking at some ibanez 1's as a mate pointed me to them

mainly just want to learn heavy stuff ,metal with some punk/hardcore.

If someone could also point me in the direction of some really good lessons for retarded people that'd be great! most of the beginner lessons still go over my head lol i just don't know the right stuff to learn , im just half-arsing my way through the songs i know so far , those guitarjamz guys explain stuff pretty good , i just need stuff explained reaally slow for me lol


want a new amp to , would a decent 15watt do?? or should i go bigger? don't really want to spend over $500 on that either.

at that price point, DO NOT get a guitar with a floyd rose. Apart from that it'll depend on what type of music you like to play.

amp-wise, don't bother getting a new one until you can afford to go tube. There are little tube amps out there for around $500 but you won't really be able to gig with those if that's something you intend to do (and its awesome, believe me). As for what amps to get, the music you want to play is an even more important part of the decision process here than for picking a guitar.
