Current Free to Play client.

Unread postby ror » 16 Aug 11, 8:41 pm

Hi guys,

Since Conan has gone free to play, I was hoping to grab the client files from the server here, save me 15g download off my quota and noticed it wasn't up yet.

On sending a new file suggestion to games.on.net I was declined given the reason "The requested program is no longer supported".

I think the email telling me I can get it now, and that there are 2 million current users might disagree with that assessment.

Has anyone got an idea of what I can put in the file suggestion form to get it hosted here? It's obviously an applicable file suggestion. (Hell, they've hosted games you can't connect to with a .au IP address).

Thanks in advance

You suggest files via this page: http://games.on.net/filelist.php?suggestfile=1
It'll need to include a link to an official page where you can download the free to play client. I don't know if AoC does that or not as I updated from one of the versions here anyway. :)

As stated on the file suggestion page, the following requirements need to be met before a file is hosted.

If a full client download is made available from the developer or publisher that we can host, we will :).

Please consider the following before submitting a file to be hosted by Games On Net.

Q. When will my file be hosted? Do you have a time frame? How long do new files that are suggested take to be approved then uploaded?
A. New file submissions will be reviewed and added to our mirror within a reasonable timeframe. Depending on the original file source, download speeds and availability of staff this approximated time frame will vary. New file requests will typically take between 24hrs and 7 days to be reviewed and added to our library.

Q. How can I ensure my file is hosted?
A. We strictly require direct download links to files so they can be processed with ease. Failure to provide a direct download link will result in a file request rejection.

Q. Are most files that are suggested added or is there a certain criteria they have to meet?
A. Most file requests we receive are suitable and added appropriately. Full game clients are required to have a direct download link.

Q. Will exclusive or watermarked content belonging to other websites be added?
A. No.

Q. Will you host torrent files?
A. No. Torrent files will not be hosted. If the developer is unable to offer us a direct link to their file, we will be unable to host this content.

Q. Is there a file size limit?
A. We do not have file size limit of any kind

Q. Is there a limit to how many file are added daily?
A. No

Cool. I missed the 'strictly direct download' part, but it makes sense. Seems like you'd have to make an account, download the downloader, then download the game, then repackage/upload it.

Way too much work ;) Given the amount of files you upload, that I enjoy, I'd prefer they don't stop, and I figure something else out.

Will hit up the dev/publishers and see if I can come up with something.

Thanks for the responses.

Response from them was "We don't direct host, or offer, or intend to offer this service". So unless games.on is going to be happy downloading it from another similar service (there are a few non-publisher sites with the entire game set up much like you guys offer) to host here, then it's a bust.

Let me know if so and I'll chase one down, otherwise, thanks for what you 'do' host, cause that's pretty neat in and of itself. :)

Thanks for looking into it further, if they do not offer that as a download package (more then often) we may be politely asked to remove our mirror at a later time if we have sourced it from an alternaive/unofficial mirror.

You are spot on :icon14:, Most developers typically require accounts to manage and track downloads and provide on the fly updates and modifcations to their own download mirrors with ease. It's a bit of a pain, sorry :)
