DiRT 3 Discussion and Youtube Links

Unread postby DarkMellie » 24 May 11, 9:32 pm

This caught me by surprise! This morning it still had 24 hours to unlock but it's available right now.

What are your initial thoughts?

Looks pretty, handles fantastically and absolutely love the amount of proper rallying on offer. Do not like the new presenter voice-overs, would actually prefer the bro-banter of DiRT2 to this lifeless pap.

Just using my 360 controller for now, will switch to the wheel tomorrow and grab some youtube footage of in-car, no HUD. I like how it integrates with your youtube account so I'll be interested to watch everyone's footage!

Yeah it was a shock to see it being playable. I like it, runs real nice but you just gotta remember to turn off the assists. I played the first two races and it felt wrong going around a corner and then I realised it had a 'corner braking' assist and was slowing me down. :p

Also tried the youtube clip option but I may have done something wrong as it didn't upload anything to my account even though it said it was. :?

Yeah, while the 2nd one wasn't great it's much better than this is.

me on G25's from IRC:

<Mellie> excellent 1:1 between onscreen wheel and the G25
<Mellie> basic profile works fine
<Mellie> force feedback is shitful
<Mellie> works brilliantly with Track IR
<Brat81> sweet Mellie that was a bit off putting
<Mellie> also, turn off HUD to do so
<Brat81> ffb can be tweaked
<Mellie> what was offputting?
<Mellie> ah good
<Brat81> the wheel not matching up
<Mellie> man dirt 3 hates being minimised

Grabbing some youtube footage on fraps now, will upload and share tomorrow.

Well I finally got to the point of creating a youtube clip except for the fact that it won't capture the audio as I'm not using the Rapture3D audio. But when I try to select it within the game it won't allow me to use anything other then the software mode. Yes the Rapture3D software is installed it just doesn't seem to want to work.

Also the youtube clips option only allows you to use about 30 seconds of the replay anyway... bah I would rather stick to fraps as I never have problems with that.

...except in my case where use of fraps causes the game to BSOD my computer!

My Youtubing went well.
Unfortunately I am a terrible driver in this as well:

Am slowly getting better. Game is really pretty. Going to have to change speed measurement back to MPH though as the navigator still uses MPH speed rec's regardless. :x

Well I finally got the game to accept Rapture3D and got to use the Youtube option. Just a quick vid to see it work.

[widetube]NUU62C-bKac[/widetube]

Anyway I found the solution on the codemaster forums but apparently it helps fix crashes for a lot of people as well so if anyone else has problems it is something to try.

Preliminary thing:
Before I did anything, I checked the Blue Ripple website, whether they have a newer version of Rapture3D Game Edition or not. They do. The most up-to-date version is 2.4.9.

You can find it on the Blue Ripple Sound website:
1. Google for Blue Ripple Sound.
2. Choose Support -> Get Updates.
3. Click on "click here" under "Game" edition and download the new version.
4. Uninstall the 2.4.8 version (which came with Dirt 3)
5. Install the one you downloaded (make sure you install it with administrator privileges).

The solution itself:

0. Exit your game.
1. Right click My Computer (XP) / Computer (Vista/Win7).
2. Select Properties.
3. Select Advanced Tab (XP) / Advanced System Settings to the left inside the window (Vista/Win7)
4. Select Environment Variables.
5. Where it lists the System Variables, click on New.
6. Variable Name, type ALLOW_RESTRICTED_RAPTURE3D
7. Variable value, type 1
8. Click ok.
9. Delete both of your hardwaresettings.xml files from the folder "Documents\My Games\DiRT3\Hardware Settings"
10. Start your game.
11. Go into your Audio Options, be sure that Rapture3D is there, and is selected.
12. Go into your Graphics Options, pump up the GFX options to the level you want it to.
13. Play.

The thread for the above is also here.

Just a couple of vids I've done.

And this on a track where the rep bonus was no rolling or spinning :|

But it looks so inviting...

And the mini just rocks!!!

I've also got a full length version of the race with the Mini but I haven't uploaded it yet... looks great.

I got it last night and I can say I'm impressed! Loving the actual rally tracks and the gymkhana tracks are a challenge. Good so far & FFB is actually accurate which is a bonus
