I was the same, and hell my N1 is built for Customising. I suggest take your time and don't rush ;)

EDIT: Just failed quite amusingly with MIUI. Flashed the latest version (1.5.6), booted it up to find its in Chinese. Do some more reading. Install the latest language pack. Reboot and start to use MIUI. Some real wonky **** starts happening. Do more reading. Language pack is for previous version.

Turns out the latest version only hit about an hour ago so they obviously haven't had time to translate.

Restoring previous ROM to keep me going until translation of 1.5.6 is done (cannot believe its based off ASOP 2.3.4 . These guys are **** quick)

Sorry man i forgot G.O.N now has a mobile section.....

Basiclly what you will need is.

Newest version of Miui
A english translation pack to go alongside with that version
Newest Google apps

Can flash with any recovery you have on your phone afaik ( i use clock work mod)

I also suggest downloading the MIUI Rom Downloader off the market will make it a hell lot easier

I've moved back to CM7 now as i was having issues with the date & time changing on me all the time.

I run Cyanogen 6.1 on my HTC Dream (via Amon_RA's recovery/DangerSPL); with the ezbifftest Kernel to fix an issue with the phone never going to sleep (lol @ the battery life, htc dreams are bad enough as is) - So it's essentially Froyo (2.2), all I really wanted to get out of rooting the thing was tethering and apps2sd, I have both so I'm happy.

The difficult part was creating a goldcard for it so it'd take an OS downgrade in the first place.

Hell yeah, the trick was to just throw the sd in a linux machine and write the image in terminal. Couldn't get Win7/xp to play ball. :(

Edit: As for still using the Dream, I do love it even with all its shortcomings, but that said, I don't replace phones until I need to. :)

Edit2: The most amazing thing about the whole process was with flashing the radio I got a free upgrade from 3G to full HSDPA - though I assume speed is limited a little just by the throughput of the phone's hardware, that's still a pretty sweet deal IMO.

Yeah I got over MIUI pretty quick. Way too iPhone-ish for me.

just putting it out there, CyanogenMod + Zeam launcher = win

Sooooo much faster than ADW.Launcher its ridiculous and quicker than Launcher Pro too. Slightly less customizable but I've cleaned mine up very nicely and in some ways its actually easier to customize.

Love it, definitely give it a go at least, its free on the market. Those with faster phones than my Legend may not see the point as much but still recommend it for the performance obsessed :P

Giving Zeam a testrun for a while, keen to get as much free RAM as possible on my Dream.

based on this thread I have now installed cm7 on my phone, Galaxy S. Its quicker then stock by a fair margin, but what has surprised me most is that apps seem to be more stable. For example, problems I was having with market, Facebook and kindle locking up and force closing are now gone.

I read some reviews about CM7 chewing battery life, so will be keeping my eye on that

Get set cpu and set speed of the cpu to drop when the screen turns off you will notice a massive increase in batt life.

My htc desire can go without a charge for 48 hours and still have about 20% left.

Also look for a kernel that has undervolt for the cpu with the above and this you will see impressive batt life

3.Unzip the psneuter & misc_version package to the same folder as adb (the /platform-tools folder within the Android SDK folder).
4.Connect the HTC Desire HD to the computer via USB.
5.On the computer, open terminal and run the following commands:

Reading this from CyanogenMod Wiki. So where is the terminal on the computer? What do they mean? Please help :)

How do you get a hold of kernels? Which one do you have installed?

kind of long-winded but basically you need to install the android sdk.

i would have thought they would have linked to another tute to explain that, just google android sdk adb or something. Pretty straight forward and very common, basically lets you use the terminal on your phone to do your low-level linuxy stuff (in very layman's terms :P )

The problem is whenever I run abd.exe it goes through some processes very quickly and just closes. I was thinking that there was another way of running abd. I'm a bit of a noob, so can you tell me what to do please

I got SetCPU and it is probably the best thing I've downloaded for this phone yet. I haven't tried from a full charge just yet but already noticed a huge difference having just left it over night. MAJOR gains for battery life if that experience remains true.
