discuss...

i know many vegans. so iv heard alot of information from them about nutrition. Alot of fairly convincing facts. But at the same time, I also know many bodybuilders and fitness people, who have an opposite oppinion.

one fact i hear quite alot is how we really dont need much protein per day. around 5% of our calories. not animal products or protein. there are heaps of animals on this planet that eat nothing but plants and grass, but can grow to large sizes. eg. horses.

im still undecided myself. But would be interested to hear other peoples oppinions on the subject.

this video also has some interesting information about nutrition. if u got an hour

It's possible to have a vegan diet and still be alright in nutrients, as long as you take supplements for anything lacking or low in your new diet. I think it best to discuss this with a dietician as they can draw up a safe and healthy diet plan for you to follow.

As a nurse, and a bit of a health-nut when it comes to balance in eating, I really do not recomment a vegan diet. Simply because we as humans were made to be omnivores, to get all the nutrients and trace elements neccessary for full body development, restoration and growth. A body cannot function at its best when it does not have the 'fuel' it needs for every single process (simply imagine every single cell in your body, there are specific groups of them that all have different requirements for their output).

I see many people who are uneducated in such diets and they come in with the bone density of a 80 year old female due to the lack of minerals neccessary for skeletal health. Then there's many who will fall into the group of anaemics. Anaemia is not just a lack of, or low iron - there are many categories and some are caused due to insufficient intake and update of vitamins to produce healthy blood cells. There are many issues that will most likely arise later in life, be it 20 years plus after the initiation of such a diet. Yes, its true a lot of people do tell of their stories of feeling wonderful and more natural, but that compared to the big picture and in the long run, doesn't always last.

But... I also do not rule out a vegetarian/vegan diet. Those who choose to include eggs, fish and milk do have a better morbidity rate than those who rule out everything animal related. You just have to be careful, it's a very big decision and a dietician is neccessary.

Herbivores have their eyes positioned towards the side of their head so that they have a wide field of view. So they can see if anything is trying to sneak up and eat them.

Carniviours have their eyes at the front of the head so they can see their prey and not be distracted.

Where are your eyes?

On the other hand, carnivores have sharp incisor type teeth for tearing meat, where herbivores have flat teeth for grinding. Do you have one or the other, or both? :)

Both, cause we're Omnivores.

Humans are not horses, cracking heads open and eating what's inside is one of the prime reasons that our brains could develop the way they did. I would say you're better off if you eat a well balanced diet of fresh, non-processed foods than you are if you exclude one major part of your diet "just because", sure you could probably get all your vitamins, minerals and fats from a vegetarian diet but unless you have a real reason for cutting the meat out then you're crazy to do so.

Beast you also need to think about how convenient(or not in this case) being a vege is, having lived with one for 20 something years i can tell you that it's a straight up pain in the ****. You'll be facing never getting a really decent meal unless you're in your own home, sure many restaurants offer a vegetarian meal or two but the variety just isn't there, you'll also be cooking more than one meal at home every night if your significant other likes her steaks.

If you're looking at being a full on vegan then you're in an even worse boat, meat, eggs, milk and all other animal products are out the door as well as white sugar and a decent chunk of wine (if thats your thing). I've known people in the past who (through being misguided hipster idiots) even refused to eat honey.

Think about it, open your fridge right now and take out all the meat, fish, dairy and anything else that ever had anything to do with an animal, ditching all those choices for the sake of misguided idealism is INSANE!

Whilst I love my meat, at the same time I'd never want to got into a slaughterhouse and really feel sorry for sheep which are shoved onto a truck, shipped over to the Middle East then stuffed into the back of a car. It also puts me off having the waiter show me the still-alive crab they pick out of the aquarium in restaurants. I guess I'm one of those "ignorance is bliss' type of omnivores.

I have been a vegetarian most my life and a vegan for the last few years. If you do your research you will find not only can you live a very healthy life style but there are some huge health benefits when you choose not to consume flesh and dairy.

Don't take dietary advice from a gaming forum to seriously though, read actual research papers on the subject and I am sure you will be surprised by all the current studies, it does not take much effort to get the real facts.

I don't really get what's wrong with dairy.

Plants grow because animals **** on them. Therefore everything's an animal byproduct.
