Season 2 2011 - which series are you hitting up?

Unread postby Bennett Ring » 1 May 11, 7:13 pm

Hey guys

It's been a while since I've posted here - I spent a big chunk of the start of 2011 overseas with work and holidays, and then got hit with recurring Fanatec hardware problems. I've been hitting iRacing hard for the last month though, and the most recent update has been simply amazing. The new track physics tweak has made the Skippy an incredibly satisfying drive... which is why I'm hitting the Skip Barber series for Season 2.

What about you guys? Where will the rest of the games.on.net drivers be lining up?

I'll be joining you in the Skippy! :D I thought about going Star Mazda again but the fun week around Okayama has been so...fun...in the Skippy 8) A pic of my ride is below (In the customary sit on the side of the track backwards while the entire field goes by position)!

I'll also run the new Nationwide on the Oval side :)

Looking forward to racing against you. And btw, slick paint job! I just had a custom jobbie created for this season as well - only $15 on the iRacing paint forums =P

Well snap, looks like all GoN-racers are in the Skip this season!

Goddamn it it's hard to get that slide through corners sometimes... looking forward to working this **** out over the next 13 weeks... I'm not expecting it to be friendly with my SR.

Also, very much over the stang and the mazda. Once I can race the Skip with reasonable success I'll be looking at the star mazda or some mixed races (Riley Prototype is a **** to drive).

Will also be hitting up some formula fun, especially when it's Spa week!

I'm not sure if it's that I'm getting better with the Skip, or the new physics /surface update, but I've been finding the Skip much easier to control in a skid/drift than at first. Okayama has been the perfect track to hone these skills.

I've been playing for a few weeks and will get promoted tomorrow out of the rookies! :jumpy:

I was tossing up racing the Mustang or the Skip but I've had heaps of fun the past two days practising on the new track with the skip. I'm pretty slow but I've got it worked out to the point where I'm comfortable enough to start pushing for speed and won't randomly fly off the track. I also love the fact that you get so much screen space with the skip where as with mustang you feel like you're peering outside a little window. I might do a little bit of mustang work if I got the urge though cause it sounds so sexy.

Anyone can add me if they want, might catch you guys round in a practise or race or something. My name is Andrew J White.

Get a TrackIR and have all the screen-space you need.

OH WHOOPS, HERE COMES THE PLUG!

Yeah I saw a youtube vid of someone using that in iRacing and was pretty impressed. It seems to perform the same function as the three monitor setup thing, although I guess it should be a bit cheaper. Might look into it.

In racing a three monitor set-up might actually work better than TrackIR (as you can swivel your head without losing sight of the track ahead). But in other games, it gives you a freedom of movement that you can't get anywhere else outside of real life.

Hey Bernie, welcome to GoN and our iRacing community :)

This is a good place to ask that question about session times! Doesn't 3 monitors cancel out the need for TrackIR and vice versa? Feel free to start a thread on what racing setups people run :D

Ok so myself and a friend of mine (actually two friends I think) will be running the Skip this season.

I'm hoping to lay down an 'aussie time' for the Skip races like they do with the V8 suerpcar series to sure up numbers and get a chance to play together.

Everyones thoughts?

Where's my promotion? :pensativo:

I guess it's running on US time and I have to wait till tomorrow.

One thing I learnt tonight was you don't appreciate how amazingly the mx5s handle until you've spent a week trying to learn to drive the mustang and skip. Going back to the mx5 is like coming home to a warm bed.
