I'm running it on 64bit Win7 as are many others however it is a commonly mentioned issue.

I think it sometimes requires a bit of fiddling around. Did you try running it as administrator and in XP compatibility mode?

There's quite a lot of additional troubleshooting here about BF2 and mods on Win7 you might find helpful: http://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-pr-bf2-support

BF2 works on W7Ux64 it runs on mine, I'd try deleting the profile or just the video.con file in the active profile, or it may be just a driver glitch not sure can't really say of the top of my head, I'm sure someone will come up with the fix for you.

Interesting. Well I rage uninstalled the other day but I'm formatting tonight so will give it another whirl once formatting is done. Might try out new drivers etc and have a look here for any clues!

edit: Just saw your post Snazz, thanks! Will look into it :)

Is that you playing?

If so, you should NEVER have your weapon pointed at friendlies.

I've seen it multiple times. Someone gets startled by something and they accidently click their mouse button. 2 casualties instead of 1.

Sometimes funny but mostly annoying.

To add to what Ford said, PR is "complicated" and even comes with a detailed manual explaining all the intricacies of the features and game modes. You can get by without reading it but you'll find yourself asking many questions in game which the manual would of answered.

It is also online if you want to skim through it whilst downloading: http://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-pr-bf2-support

The manual doesn't teach tactics to use and how to be a team player though, that stuff usually has to be learned through experience or from another player.

FH2 is kind of in between PR and vanilla BF2 in terms of gameplay, although unlike them it doesn't have medics at all and is entirely converted to WW2.

When first playing either of the mods I suggest starting with their COOP modes, which have more forgiving settings. They are also hosted online also so you can train with others against bots that are essentially moving targets for firing practice. Whilst being predictable drones, bots are extremely accurate and can see you through objects so they are challenging in their own ways.

Ultimately whether you enjoy the mods or not depends on your personal preferences, just keep in mind that they're best once you've grasped the gameplay and play in a decent squad. You also have your good rounds and bad rounds, in PR particularly those can be dramatically different experiences.

MikeJT wrote:Is that you playing?

Nah I searched youtube for recently recorded 116 player matches. If I had of recorded it I probably would of avoided staying in the same building for so long or at least shown the map more so people could get a sense of battle scale and depth.

Probably the best gameplay videos of PR are by their lead coder DB: http://www.youtube.com/user/muitocomplicado

MikeJT wrote:If so, you should NEVER have your weapon pointed at friendlies.

Sometimes you need to sight in on someone to identify whether they are friendly or enemy, as the name tags aren't always visible. At least in cases you can't distinguish their uniform or feel you don't have enough time to check on the map.

One thing PR has done with the third person animations is having the weapons pointed downwards unless being aimed, as you can see in this screenshot:

Okay gotta admit, Project Reality is awesome but yet again ruined by the community and the available documentation.

After throughly reading through the documentation that I was given with the game (http://www.realitymod.com/manual/pr_manual.pdf), it left so many questions unanswered, but when I asked them in game, everyone was like "Read the manual noob!", to which I replied "It's not in the manual", which was met with a 'YES IT IS!'. Who knows the manual better? The guy who read it 3 months ago when the mod was released or the guy who read it 2 days ago?

Clearly these people know something about the game so they assume it's in the manual.

A good example of ambiguity in the manual is "Resuscitate can be applied to untangle critically wounded soldiers from the
ground".

Untangle? WTF is untangle? Do they explain untangled in the manual, no they don't.

And for some reason, the Project Reality guide is locked so you need to sign up to their forums to access it:

http://www.realitymod.com/guide

Do they not want people to play their game?

You would think so.

People who play this sort of game need to learn to be more helpful and understanding to new players.

In two days of playing this game, I have taught about 8 different new players how to do several things which weren't immediately obvious to me at first either. Most players didn't know they had a field dressing (9), because it does not appear in their inventory when they are scrolling through their equipment.

I also taught several players how to operate the mortars, and they can all now hit targets within a 25x25 m grid square.

It seems everyone who plays wants more people to play it, but no one actually wants to help new players get into the game.

Don't get annoyed when someone doesn't know how to do something. Tell them how to do it.

Don't say 'read the manual' when someone asks a simple question - just answer them.

This is a game where you lie on your back on the ground for up to 5 minutes after taking a single bullet, and time between matches is like 3 minutes on most servers.

Is it really that much of an imposition on your time to take 20 seconds to answer a question? Is lieing on your back taking that much concentration?

Woah Mike, calm down there buddy  I agree with you mostly haha, it's difficult to start!

With the community, you're always going to find tards, sometimes even moreso with PR (elitist tards) but it depends which server you're playing on. The Australian BigD servers are generally friendly, likewise Tactical Gamer (heaps of enforcement on teamwork, must join a squad, etc).

The easiest way to pick up the game is to actually play it, a lot of players have never read the manual, it only gives you a very rough idea about the game. For example, I have no idea how to use mortars and I've been playing since they were added

When it comes to playing, it definitely depends whose squad you join. After playing you'll get a feel for who is who on which ever server you frequent and you'll quickly pick up which players they are (and which players to ignore entirely).

Fyi: In PR corpses can sometimes get stuck in walls rendering them unrevivable, hence the untangling resuscitate thing.
Also, the guige you linked is a WIP, and has been locked since I began playing, which is almost 2 years hehe. You'll need to use the .pdf or ask on on forums or in-game.

I think you're making judgments too early. Also communities are naturally a mixed bunch of people with varying attitudes, Lumping them all up into one stereotype based on a few people isn't fair.

I've played with many helpful people and read a lot of feedback from other new players about good learning experiences.

MikeJT wrote:And for some reason, the Project Reality guide is locked so you need to sign up to their forums to access it:

Negative, it is locked to everyone except the people working on it while it is being updated. All it used to contain was a basic wiki on different factions, weapons and vehicles.

You can try playing in a supportive or logistical role while you get used to it, the standard rifleman kit is quite easy to use and has ammo bags for replenishing teammates on the frontlines.

Why is everyone who plays this game a total wanker?

Not all of us are;
Some of us play to have a good time and others just go in to annoy people. :(
Lets see what happens in BF3. :)

Don't forget we have this.
