Scanpan

Anyone used this particular brand of cookware before?

I'm looking for a good quality non-stick 6L pot and 2.5L saucepan. Scanpan is on sale at David Jones. Some reviews online state that the non-stick coating comes off under high heat and that the cookware is not as durable. Others state that scanpan is good quality stuff.

If you're going to buy Scanpan or any famous brand cookware, consider buying from

http://www.victoriasbasement.com.au/ or
http://www.petersofkensington.com.au/Home/

or your states equivalant outlet (both of these are in NSW).

Their normal price is usually still cheaper than a normal retail outlet like David Jones sale price.

I haven't had any issues with the Scanpan cookware I have, I'd recommend them to anyone, however they aren't non-stick. As far as I'm aware all non-stick coating have issues with high heat. The highly polished surface is however still very easy to clean.

Thanks for those links mate. I'm still looking for a few items so I'm sure they'll come in handy. Don't know what the equivalent to those stores are in QLD but P&H isn't overly expensive considering the drastic savings.

I decided to avoid Scanpan as I do a lot of high heat cooking and didn't want to risk it. Choice.com.au ranks Anolon and Circulon in their top 5 cookware brands so I looked at those this morning.

I compared the 4 piece Anolon set I just bought with the cost of the individual items on those two sites and it ended up being pretty much on par. The Circulon 2.8L pot I bought is still overpriced though even after 50% off but I need the pot now so I'll probably keep it.

Still want a 3.8L pot, a new wok and maybe a new 9.5L stockpot down the track so I think I'll end up shopping online next time

EDIT: I've been looking for Morganware Centuria cookware for a while too... no body stocks them! I was hoping that those sites had them but they don't. Morganware Centuria might just not be sold anymore. Pity as the 4L pot I have from them has withstood some tough usage in the past 7 years.

for the wok DO NOT buy a non-stick wok. Go to an asian grocer or find elsewhere a carbon steel wok. I paid $35 for mine at kitchen warehouse, which is quite a lot for a carbon steel wok but sadly I couldn't find them anywhere else.

anyways, once you season it correctly (easy to do) it becomes non-stick. I recommend doing a bit of googling/reading up.

I've not yet come across a non-stick surface that actually works over an extended period. My mum has a set of scanpan that are the polished steel type, and they're pretty decent

Morganware Centuria has stood the test of time for me. My dad has one, I've got one and my bro has one... and not bought at the same time either so it wasn't just a lucky batch.

Their anodised non-stick gear will scratch a bit after prolonged ussage but that like all other cookware. However, after 7yrs, it's still non-stick and there's no bubbling of any sort.

I'm just hoping the Anolon and Circulon gear are the same.

I've got several of Jamie Olivers frypans/pots etc. Have had one of the frypans for the best part of two years. It's still non-stick just like the first day i bought it.

Provided you clean them properly, they should stay non-stick.

Considering I started this thread, I better stick up for ya - lol

Depends on how much you like to cook. Decent cookware can make a huge difference with how a meal tastes and, to certain degree, it does show that you care about what you eat. And besides, chicks dig seeing some decent cookware in a guy's pantry (well, the ones I hang with do).

I think Robert Rodriguez said it best on the Once Upon a Time in Mexico extras: "Not knowing how to cook is like not knowing how to f**k!"
